I just bought my plane ticket and emailed my TA to book the hotel. Oh. My. Goodness. I'm really doing this. I'm taking off, alone, to Disney World. My kids are going to flip. They know I was thinking of doing it.

I am nervous and excited and scared and happy all at the same time! Did I just make a very expensive mistake? Will this be wonderful or horribly lonely? I can't believe I just did it!

good for you! I've never thought about taking a trip on my own until I've read about so many people on the dis that have. I think if I was to take a solo trip I would try to reach out to some fellow dissers who were going the same time and meet up for a drink or a meal if possible. I would want to stay in Disney, I think I would feel safer. I think you'll enjoy yourself. When are you going and where are you staying? Linda :)

congrats! i just got back from my first "real" solo trip, and i had the best time!

Congrats on planning your first solo trip to WDW.:thumbsup2

I have done several, a true benefit of being a DVC member.

Winniethepoohsmom is correct, put the word out to your fellow Dis'ers. You never know, you might be able to meet a few in person during your trip. I have done that, and have enjoyed their company.

Thanks folks!

I'll be there Aug 23-27 and I was able to get in on Free Dining (as of the 24th)!:woohoo: Will be at ASMu!

You'll have a great time - just long enough to get some time away, but not too long that you'll be lonely. When I'm solo, I usually talk to friends and family on my cell, but also get to meet new friends thru DIS.

Actually, I'll be there Aug. 21-29. Staying with my DBF twotoohappy and her daughter for the week. We'll be doing Jellyrolls a few times, the parks, waterparks and Margaritaville. Maybe we can cross paths...

I knew you'd do it! I met up with a lot of DIS-ers on my solo trip last week - (Marcia that just posted a few posts up! Hi Marcia!! :wave2: )

I wasn't nervous or guilty about leaving the kids behind to enjoy myself without them in Disney. I was more anxious & worried that they'd get sick, or that something would go wrong & my parents would have to deal with it. That they wouldn't find the baseball field, would miss the bus, etc. Those were the things I worried about - that I wasn't at home to take care of things!

You should start a post on here seeing if any other solo DIS-ers will be there on your dates. That's how I found & met up with ELEVEN DIS-ers last week! It was really nice to know there were others in the park in my same situation. It really is like Where's Waldo though - I had my list of about 15 DIS-ers there at the same time, and outside of the planned meets, I only ran into one of them the whole time.

It will be wonderful! I have gone to Disney solo on day trips several times. I also did a 3 day vacation to the resorts last year and have already planned a full 7 days there for this October. Just relax and let yourself enjoy. Do what you want when you want. Allow yourself time to sit and people watch. Embrace the joy that is Disney! The only way you will feel lonely is if you dwell on feeling lonely. Does that make sense? Instead of thinking "Oh, I am embarrassed to ride this alone or eat alone or whatever" think "What do I want to do that I never get to do with the kids?" Let us know how much you loved it when you get back!

Enjoy! Just did my first one in March, and can't wait to go on another! You'll love it!

Great news! You won't regret it - it will be wonderful. It'll be different from going with the kids but just as special. I have fantastic memories of my solo trip in 2006.

enjoy the freedom!

i've taken several solo trips - best times ever - no DH or DS whining!!!!

I hope you have a great time. I am on the "fence" about booking a solo trip as well. My kids don't want to go this year and DH is not a disney fan. He makes fun the whole time we are there. I want to go so I think I just might book a trip just for me. I can lay by the pool, eat what I want, shop until I drop, and ride any ride or see whatever show I want. I think I am talking myself into it. ;)

I did the same thing myself just a month or so ago! I couldn't imagine going without the family, but after checking what it would cost and then finding the dining plan would be free this fall, I decided to go for it. In fact my solo trip is now myself and one of our best full time substitutes where I work. She is in her 70's and travels to WDW and does the cruise several times a year with her family. She said she didn't want me to have to go alone and she would love to join me! I can't wait. And I'm actually getting over the "guilt" of going without the family. We will go next year for our family vacation. Hey, who knows, another mom may want to go with you!

i just booked my first solo trip also, I'll be there from Dec 10 to 15. My kids are shocked...but we'll all be going next April! I am really looking forward to going solo and meeting other solo travelers...hope to meet some of you here before our trips! :wizard:

I still haven't told my kids! LOL! I have eluded to the idea that it is something I want to do and might do this summer. Their reactions range from "How could you?" to indifference to "Will you buy me something?", LOL! They were just there in March and will be going again in the next 18 months so I don't feel too badly!

Enjoy planning your trip!

Allyson :)

I am so happy you took the plunge! You won't regret it. I've done a few solo trips and a few family trips (just can't convince my girlfriends to do the girlfriends-trip-to-WDW) and as much as I love and adore my family - solo is the way to go. YOU GET TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO!!! And don't worry about people looking at you weird or anything - I personally think any looks are envious looks from harried people who are a part of a group!! LOL.

WDW is a wonderful place to solo trip to because everyone there is of the Disney-mindframe. I've met a lot of really nice people and there are times it's heaven cause you don't have to talk!

I've eaten at Character meals and gotten my picture taken. I've enjoyed Downtown Disney shopping, eating and partying. I just love the freedom. I've people-watched (and even sometimes gecko-watched) been at rope drops and gotten the best seating for parades and fireworks.

Ocassionally you might see a family enjoying themselves and get a bit lonely but that's when you put on a broad, happy smile and remember: YOU'RE IN DISNEY-WORLD!!!!

I'm planning my next trip solo and I can't wait. So congrat's to those of you who have "crossed-over" - You're Going to Have a Great Time. Ely

I am so glad to hear that traveling solo comes so "highly recommended"! I'm really looking forward to it...

Yeah! for you.

I don't think once you get there you will feel lonely at all.

I debated for a while myself about it, but these boards really convinced me it can be a great thing.

Enjoy!:cool1:

I did my frist solo trip ever, last year and I went to the Pirates 3 Premier in Disneyland and I had an amazing time. I think I am in the process (just working out all the details) for another solo trip for myself in late September, but I am taking the kids in December. It is wonderful to be on your own schedule, do what YOU want to do. You can then go home, relax and know that when you take the kids back , you have already seen what you want and you can concentrate on them ! It is a win/win situation !!!!:thumbsup2
