I went last fri 5-27-11 to have my shellac manicure done. I had never had this girl before so we were talking ,and she asked me if i wanted my nails short and i said yes, well the next thing i knew she was using her nail clippers to shorten them and she got my finger instaed of the nail. I haven't had anything hurt and bleed that bad in a long time.

It was really deep and took 2 days to stop bleeding. My husband who isn't grossed out by much was sickened by this. They gave me the rest of the mainicure for free but i wouldn't let the touch the pinky so they gave me a certificate to come back and have it done. Before i do that i want it to heal. While i was there they where changing bandages on it every 10 mins, and it was bleeding everywhere. While i know she didn't do it on purpose i wish she had been more careful.

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry that happened to you.

If you go back to the same place for another manicure, I sure wouldn't let her do it again.

I'm so sorry! That is terrible! :scared1:

I have a phobia of letting others cut my fingernails or toenails, for this reason. I cut them to the length I want before I go in.

The fingers are pretty vascular (like the skull). When you cut them, you bleed a LOT. And it is pretty painful because your fingers are filled with nerves to allow you to touch and feel things. I would probably go to the doctor and see if they want to put you on antibiotics. An infection from that type of cut (at a nail salon) is pretty common. It also sound like you may have needed a stitch or two.

On a related note...how do you like the shellac mani's? I'm thinking about doing one for my upcoming trip.

I was very interested in shellac manicures but after hearing from so many of my friends having issues getting them off- people being impatient and filing etc- that I think I am going to stick to my normal pattern.
What I do is get a normal manicure and put 1 coat of Nailtiques, Formula 2 on them every day. Dries VERY fast and makes my nails so hard them suckers just will not break! And will not chip either. Plus- it's a whole lot cheaper.

Where do you get Nailtiques?

 Ahh!

I hope that you are disinfecting the wound and keeping it clean. I would never allow someone to use clippers on me that they use on other people, they should be sterilized. Paula Abdul got a really nasty infection in this exact way, and it took her forever for it to go away. The freebie is the least they could have done, and frankly, I think that is the least of your problems.http://thehealthyhaven.wordpress.com/2010/11/17/can-salons-spread-infection/

Beleive me i have thought daily about getting an infection in it. I have been cleaning it out and i hope its enough.

As far as liking the shellac i love it i wouldn't get anything else.

I don't have health insurance and I'd at least go to Urgent Care with a cut that bled THAT long and that I got from a likely very dirty source. Not all infections are easily visible.
