You know how it is when you're planning something big, like a Disney trip, and there's some major hurdle on your calendar that you have to get over first?
Well, I am so happy that I just jumped my hurdle and it's all downhill from here straight to WDW! OK, I'll explain.
The 5th graders at my son's school went to science camp this week and I went along as a chaperone. My son has a few special needs and it was imperative that either DH or I go to be with him for the three nights away from home. I got elected because it's easier for me to get time off work. So I spent most of the weekend packing up our gear, studying the directions, etc. since I'd be driving my own car. I was nervous about forgetting something because there wouldn't be anyplace nearby to buy anything (that's right, no gift shop!).
So we took off Monday morning for the woods with 71 5th graders
. I was very nervous about what to expect and how my son (and I) would handle it. It turned out not to be so bad. Although, I did get tired of having every minute of my day programmed. The chaperones got a little free time in the afternoons but that was it. And we were in a dorm with a bathroom just down the hall so that wasn't so bad either.
The highlight was the chaperone's party last night where we all sat up until 11:30 while the teacher watched the dorms where the kids were sleeping. We had a great time evaluating the various activities and it got a little raunchy toward the end (what else would expect from a bunch of tired moms and dads who wanted their TVs and a Starbuck's coffee?).
So, now we're home. My son had a great time and learned a lot. My younger son survived the week with dad and the grandparents shuttling him to school and taking care of him. And now....I can see our Disney trip straight ahead! It's like a big monkey just jumped off my back and now there's room for Mickey!
Thanks for letting me share! I feel much better now!
