DW and I talked it over tonight and we would rather buy DVC than a car......I love the 2057 expiration window and the matching SSR points for a super vaca next May.

The only thing holding us back is that we would have to finance it and that is a problem but I am starting not to care or better yet, starting to more than justify this purchase since the money would be going to a car otherwise.

I mean 160 points couldnt hurt, could it?:moped:

Depends - did you WANT a new car or do you NEED one? You can't drive a DVC vacation, LOL.

Good luck with your decision.

If you can postpone your car purchase, go for it! I have a 2000 Malibu and getting closer and closer to replacing it . . . but I am pushing it off to get my DVC points to 500 (and paid off) before the new car has to be dealt with.

Did you hear you can buy only 100 points AKV without the matching points from disney? Not nearly as good of a deal but you may need a place to put your DVC bumper sticker.

Just payed off 2 cars.....now to pay off that DVC contract that took it's place LOL

It depends on the condition of the car you are driving? If you can get away with driving the car you have I say get the DVC, there is nothing wrong with driving a used car until it doesn't run any more.

I drove a used car for years with a deal with my DH that the amount that the car payment would cost I could have for my hobbies. For 6 years I did that and I have a rubber stamp collection with over 10,000 rubber stamps. I will have them forever, if I had opted for the new car it would already be a distant memory.

Your DVC is going to last a lot longer than any car you will buy.

If you don't need a new car, then go for it. Just keep in mind that you will have annual dues.

I just added on 100 points to our SSR contract. I also put off buying a new car. My current van is a 2006 but I miss having a car. My van is paid for so no new car for 4 years. Oh well. Go for it unless you need the car I didn't.:rotfl:

I am a go for it kinda gal, hence why we have another contract in the works already and we just closed on our first one two weeks ago!

That's so funny - we're contemplating the same thing - car vs DVC...and the 100 point "special" they're running is making it evern harder to decide. :confused3
My husband drives a Ford F150 crew cab pickup to/from work every day, including going back/forth between different job sites. Needless to say he uses a LOT of gas. We're thinking that since the gas prices are only going to get worse, he really needs to get something more economical. The truck is only a few years old and it's paid off, so he wants to just keep it rather than try to trade it and have them tell us it's only worth $1.75. So this would essentially be a 3rd car. :headache: But he fills up w/gas about 2x/week and it was $97.00 the last time. I don't know how much longer we can do that!

But at the same time, the 100 pt "special" is very tempting, especially since we always stay at AKL. We've been averaging 2 trips/year to WDW, but will probably go down to once/year since airline tix are getting so high too...we'd still be at "break even" in a short time.

I wonder how long the 100 pt buy in is going to be available. :confused3 Maybe we can get a Prius and take the money we save from gas and start a DVC wish fund!

I'd go for DVC if your car is not needing to be replaced in the near future. We hemmed and hawed about buying into DVC for a while-then when AKV was announced, we just bit the bullet and went for it. We've never regretted it. The only thing is that the add-on's are quite addictive. We've done it once already and are pondering another. ::yes::
