I am SUCH an IDIOT!!!!

Don't berate your self! These things happen.

Once, I was at the neighbours and the kids were fooling around by the car doors. Her door was standing open and I didn't want it to drain the battery so I closed the door to be helpful to her.

The doors were all locked and the keys were left in the ignition. She had no spare keys! I couldn't believe she didn't have a spare. Her husband was away on a fishing trip and he had the only spare.

Well, I couldn't leave her car in a carport with the keys visible. So I phoned up a locksmith and paid him $50.00 at a time when times were tough and I didn't have a dollar to spare!!!

I still can't believe she left her keys in the ignition, and not have a back-up key. That was the last time I ever tried to help her.

Okay, I'm in. My parents came by with my extra set.... AND in my defense, I had been talking on my cell when I pulled in, and finished the conversation before getting out of the car. Apparently, I had put the keys in my coat pocket, and they had fallen out because I found them between the seat and the jockey box. The pockets in this jacket aren't very deep, and I've lost things out of them before - I try to be aware of it, but because I've been wearing my other jacket all winter, habit just took over. So, I did do what I was supposed to, but gravity thwarted my efforts this time. Plus, I scratched my hand reaching between the seats, so I'm scarred to boot. Sheesh!!!

I left my keys not only in the car, but also in the *ignition* (at least it was off) this afternoon at lunch. So you're not alone. :teeth: I was just lucky my dad was with me since he has a spare key. ;)

Glad you've been rescued!!!! Last winter, on a day when school was dismissed early due to snow, I unlocked my van, started the engine, cranked up the heater, grabbed my snowbrush...and locked all the doors....but I didn't realize I locked them all until I was OUTSIDE the van!!!

My purse, my cellphone, my AAA card....all inside getting nice and toasty warm. I learned that you can call AAA without your member number.....they have contingencies for folks like me.....and they'll come and help. Fortunately I was in the parking lot of my office so I could go inside to call....and before AAA arrived I was able to track down DH who rescued me. I also had to alert a neighbor to take in my kids until I could get home!!!

Fishey...you're among friends here!!! :D

Well ALMOST everything..... I still haven't come up with a good excuse as to why I hang out with the likes of you!! ;) ;) :p

I once locked my keys in the car as well as my DD!!!!! It was many years ago and she was just a toddler in the carseat. I was outside blubbering (waiting for the cops) and she was looking at me through the passenger window, laughing!;)

you are not an idiot. my record for locking keys in the car is 6 times in one month. and of course where i was and where the spare keys were were at least 45 minutes away. have i learned my lesson?? nope. i have a new car and lost the spare and have not made a spare set. i will never learn.

I locked my keys in the car at the car repair place, with the engine running, in the middle of a HUGE snowstorm. Of course they couldn't (didn't want to?) open the door for me, and AAA was kinda busy with accidents (when I called they said a 6 hour wait). Nobody was home to bring me an extra set cause the snow was slowing everything down. I finally had a friend come pick me up, drive me to my house to get the spare and drive back. It was a nightmare, one that everyone is always making sure I remember.
