My dh and I have a MK view room at the CR booked for Dec. 16-22. The total is $3,700. I was playing around today on the Disney website and found with the new code a courtyard view room at the WL for the same dates for $2,700 total. We have about three weeks left to pay $1,000 for the MK view room or change the ressies and have it paid off now and have that extra $1,000 to take with us. We have had these reservations since January. I have planned everything around it and was looking forward to the view. However I have always wanted to stay at the WL and I would be happy there. This is our 10th anniversary trip and have considered it a once in a lifetime thing for us (or at least until our 25th anniversary). We are also thinking of buying into DVC so this may be our only chance to stay at the CR with this view. BUUUUUUT the $1,000 extra in my pocket when we go looks very tempting. Can you just picture all of this stuff running in my mind over and over and over  . Some one make up my mind for me and make it stop pleeeeeeease.

esp. if you are thinking of DVC--save the $1K and use it for down payment for DVC. WL is a beautiful place, especially at Christmas all decorated.

If it is once in a lifetime and you have the money and your house is in order money wise at home, go with what your gut really wants to do. If the 1000 is really needed elsewhere, you have your answer and it would still be a great trip at a deluxe resort.

Write down your pros and cons for each resort

plan your days from WL - see how that fits

maybe that would help you make a decision

The money is alot. You pay for the the luxury of the monorail. I havent paid attention to the bus situation for WL-do they share with other resorts? We took the monorail to visit the resorts one night-one thing I found is that while you have the luxury of the monorail- you still have to wait for it. Probably not as long as the busses. but I could wait an extra 15-30 minutes for a bus for that kind of money

Since you have planned everything around the ressie at the CR and because it is your 10th anniversary trip I would go with the original ressie.

There will be plenty of time down the road to stay at the WL, you will only be celebrating your 10th WA once.

Stop playing around on the disney reservaton site and start packing.

10th WA + MK Castle view = Magical moment.

Have a great time!

The WL is gorgeous at Christmas, very festive decorations. CR has minimal decorations. This is a picture of the view from an inner courtyard room, #6039:

Christmas at the WL is a pull for me also. I love Christmas time and I think that the decorations at the WL are much better than the CR's (I have only seen pictures). Either way I am at Disney at Christmas time with no children I will be happy any where :rotfl: . It is just hard to make that leap when I have been planning all year.

If you've always wanted to stay at WL, then go for it and save yourself 1000 bucks!! I can see if you really didn't want to stay at WL but just wanted to save money, but that is not the case. Yes the view is spectacular from CR, but that view of WL courtyard is just as pertty....BTW, I am pretty sure if you buy into DVC you can stay at any Disney resort as long as you have enough points and availability of course, at least that's what I was told. :)

Go with your gut!

I stayed at CR a couple of weeks ago. That will probably be the only time for me also. I LOVED it! The rooms are just beautiful & I didn't even have a MK view! I'd say keep your ressie the way it is especially since you're thinking of buying into the DVC. You can stay at WL then!

Hi Bama neighbor!! I say stay at WL, save the $1,000, and the book a romantic dinner at California Grill (if there are any ADR's left for that time) timed so that you can see the fireworks during dinner. One of my favorite things and extremely romantic!!

I don't know how many nights you are staying or what your nightly rate is but if you take as an example the CR MK view room in regular season is $445 and the WL CY view room in regular season is $320 then of course the price would be cheaper by $125 per night. But in my honest opinion I would never pay $320 for WL CY view anyway, because I don't think its worth that much, so for the money you're already spending I'd pick CR.

Staying where you want to be most. I will tell you that even if you buy DVC anywhere other than the WL you will not be able to stay at the WL during the Christmas season on DVC points. We have tried! This is why we sold our first DVC and bought WL resale. Go with what your heart says.:thumbsup2 We wish you all a magical trip:cool1:

DH finally came home and we decided to take the plunge and change our ressies. We are now staying at the WL with courtyard view. I am excited. We were going to be a little close on money to pay off the reservations in time without charging it or taking money out of our savings to do it. Now I have an extra $1,000 to take and they owe ME $90.22 :cool1: . This gives us breathing room and we love the atmosphere at the WL so win win for us. Thanks everyone for their input  .

Whoo hoo! I think you'll enjoy yourself regardless. The WL rooms are smaller than the ones at CR, but if you are going with just your DH you'll be fine. Take tons of pictures, we haven't stayed at WL since the rooms were renovated. We were booked there for Jan 2-6 at RACK RATE, but switched to YC with AAA for less money, go figure! Oh well, we love YC too, so we're still happy. But, as others have mentioned, WL is very popular now and discounts are very hard to come by. I remember in June '04 I was offered WL at $129 with a GA resident discount but we went with CR (we used to stay there all the time). DH didn't want to stay there. Well, I loaded all of us on the resort launch and took them over there and he made me book there for our trip that we tok in October of that year! :lmao:
