I know that a lot of people are not fond of complaints, but honestly, I feel like I need to get this out for my sanity. So if anyone reading this hates complaints, please do not continue reading this.
I knew nothing of this quest this weekend because I spent the entire weekend chaperoning activities for a youth organization I'm an adult adviser for. So I sign on today to discover that this enormous quest is going on. So I tried and tried to get through it. At one point my entire family was each on a different computer, trying to get me through it, but they sadly all kept crashing. My brother spent nearly the entire day trying to help as well. He has a major paper due tomorrow, but he persisted in helping me because he felt that since I'd put so much of my time into getting it done, he wanted to make sure I could. After hours and hours of playing, I finally got a turn. And ended up twenty points short of the necessary score. The rest of the players were kind enough to let me try again, but yet again I came up short by a tiny amount of points. I felt that it was unfair for me to continue trying, since I already got two tries.
Now my brother hasn't finished his paper, since he was so busy trying to help me. And he's completely stressed out about that. And I have nothing to show for it, but disappointment. I haven't eaten since probably 11am. I'm completely burned out. And now I hear that they're going to be ending the quest in the middle of the day. As it was, I have to leave in the middle of the day to go tutor and then go to a meeting until VMK closes, but noon?? That's just insulting, especially to all the working adults and CHILDREN out there. This game was made primarily with children in mind. Last I had heard, children have school. Honestly, I think it's rather asinine of VMK to schedule it's end in the middle of the week anyway, since it's not like it does kids/working adults a whole lot of good anyway (aside from inadvertently encouraging them to skip work/school). But to end in the middle of the day?? Good grief.
I've pretty much resigned myself to never completing this ridiculous quest. I'll likely never get the items that can be won through it, because it will probably be the only way to obtain them (aside from trading -- and we all know that this will all be even more valuable than red baseball, which looks like a cake walk in comparison now). I'm up for a challenge. I have no problem with the challenge aspect of this quest. Had the only issue been to get 575 credits in pirates, sucked up a ton of ghosts, and gotten a super score on jungle cruise, I would have persisted with doing so with no complaint. The main issue I have with this quest is that the challenge was not necessarily in the tasks. The reason this quest was so incredibly impossible for so many people was because VMK for whatever reason, refuses to modify their system so that it can handle massive amounts of people all at one time. The biggest issue was even being able to get all the players together in one room together so that they could play a game. That in itself would end up taking at LEAST half an hour. My brother plays tons of other games, and everytime I ask him to play VMK with me he is shocked and dismayed by how incompatible it is with the amount of people who play. He has told me numerous times that all of the other games he plays have multiple servers, so why doesn't VMK? Why isn't there more bandwidth? They know very well that they've grown significantly since the old days, but they've yet to accommodate to that. Maybe if they did, there would be a lot fewer disappointed players. And you know, personally I'll be disappointed for a while that I don't have silver ears (I collect ears in real life) or twilight zone magic (twilight zone is my favorite show), because I got really, really excited about those two items. But I'll get over it relatively quickly since I'm an adult and VMK isn't necessarily the the center of my life. I feel really bad for any children who invest a lot into this game, who feel that VMK is a hugely important part of their lives, who didn't get to finish this quest. Because I really think that it WILL get to them.
P.S. Please keep in mind that I am exhausted and starving, so I may have made little sense in portions of this post. Also, please take nothing I said personally. I am not flaming anyone on this board, nor staff members. I am simply stating issues I have with the system that is currently in place for the game.
Edited to Add: I would also like to note that there were malicious players in the game who had already completed the quests themselves, would get themselves into lobbies, but then would refuse to join any games or leave. Instead they would stand there wearing silver ears, bragging to everyone about all the stuff they had, while using their new magic. Meanwhile, the rest of everyone's teams could not get into the room. Sigh.
