I am really in need of DA (DVCers anonymous). We just added on 50 pts to our contract. We have two trips this year and I'm driving DH nuts trying to figure out points and trips for next year. Should we do two 7 night trips per year or one long trip? There may be a 16 month time frame where I don't set foot on Disney property:scared1: Oh the horror! If we don't do this, we'll always be borrowing. Somebody help me please!

You've taken the hardest step by admitting you have a problem:laughing: We just got back yesterday from a 14 night stay and although it was GREAT :woohoo: I am going to stick to one week trips (okay maybe ten days) as being away from our pets for so long was traumatic to both us and the pets:love: Congratulations on your Add On, my goal is four 180 point contracts:cool1:

Unfortunately I will be no help. We're closing on 80 additional points too. Already spent them, too. We're calculating how soon we can have this paid off in order to add on more. And DH has also gulped down too much DVC kool-aid. He's just as bad as I am at this point. LOL

I need DW to drink so DVC Kool-Aid! She is only letting me add on 75-125 points after we just closed on our resale Friday! :confused3

We recently purchased dvc, have several points to use and not sure when and how to use them. :headache: What a problem to have. :lmao:

Repeat after me: THERE's NOTHING WRONG WITH BORROWING!

It even has its advantages...when you're in perpetual borrowing mode (as we are), you never have to worry about banking deadlines or whether you'll use all your points prior to their expiration (and it's so easy to have just a few "left over" points at use-year-end--not enough for an extra night, but painful to lose)...

If you run out of points even w/perpetual borrowing, you just add on (we've done it four times in 3 years!)...

If you don't have to, why limit yourself at WDW? I say: the more we/you can go, the better!!

Pixie dust to you as you make your decision...

Do all of you own your DVC outright or are you still paying on your original purchase when you add on?

We own our first contract outright but are financing this one (our 2nd). Don't plan to keep to the payment schedule though; we'll pay off as early as we can.

You'll get into the swing. It's hard at first going without, but a long trip is so worth it. This November I have a trip, next year HHI, but we will skip a year and plan on doing a 1 week VB, 1 week Disney, 1 week HH. The fun we will have.

Own all our points outright...did use 0% interest credit cards to spread the cost of each contract over a few months, but didn't pay any interest on any of the purchases...

Oh....how I feel your "pain". I too have become an add-on addict.

I bought my first 160 points just a little over a year ago and since then have added on TWICE.

I haven't even closed on the 2nd add yet and I find myself scouting around for more. :scared1:

I would do two 7-night trips instead of one long trip.

DVC Mike...may I ask your thoughts on this one? I know it's all a matter of preference but I like to get opinions. It sometimes helps in making my decisions.

I would rather have two stays at Disney than a single longer stay so that it wouldn't be so long between Disney fixes.

I'm the opposite, I prefer one longer trip, and just made that decision for us. We'll be spending nearly 3 weeks at 3 WDW resorts in the winter, which is wonderful for us. Here's why- 1. it gives us a really good break from the winter. 2. we won't be rushed at all, and if weather isn't good some days it won't matter we'll go swimming on the warm days, and do other things on cooler days. 3. traveling only once- so for us driving, it's only one time making a long drive down and back- saves on time and on money. BUT- we have a place north of here on a lake we enjoy the rest of the year, and don't have as much need to be out of town. So maybe that makes a difference? If I wasn't able to vacation at all the rest of the year, I might take it split into two trips. If you are able to do something else between your longer disney trips, I'd do that. Good luck with your decision- you really can't go wrong!! :goodvibes

That's my point. Need to convince DH of this.

This is it. We drive, too and this year our trips are 8 weeks apart...8 nighter and 6 nighter. Not sure how this will go. Last year we drove January and November and that wasn't too bad because our November trip was 12 nights. We don't really go anywhere else during the year and I was thinking May and September for us would be good. All I know is I'm driving DH nuts.

I'm in a similar boat on the pets; my last WDW trip we flew down on Sat., came back on a Fri., picked up our puggle from being boarded on Sat. and relaxed at home on Sat. & Sunday before going back to work. That length felt about right for us, our 'kids' (a cat & dog), and 5 vacation days in a row isn't too hard to schedule and I like the post trip day or two before the office. Now I just need to get to a point of regularly doing two ~ 1 week WDW trips per year instead of just one... :upsidedow

I also prefer 2 one week trips. Much easier to be away from the dogs and it's also easier at work, plus it seems we're always talking about the trip we just got back from or the one that's coming up.
The only drawback is the cost of the airfare twice instead of once.
