I am officially a theme park snob!

Yes.. It's true.. DH and I are theme park snobs! We took our DD who will be 5 in a couple of weeks to Six Flags The Great Escape since we won't be going to DIsney for a year.. DH and I hadn't been in years but we thought it would be fun.. I purchased our tickets online and we basically walked right into the park... They are trying really hard to imitate Disney with their "Flash Pass" that by the way costs $10 per person.. But it is definately NOT disney...

The park is definitely getting run down. Food cost more than at Disney... Paint was chipping everywhere, it was not very clean. DD spotted a pony ride (she loves horses) and when we got there it cost $5.00 to ride aound in a circle. There was no way we could get around this and I am glad we could pay for it but it certainly isn't cheep for a family to go there and then to add more things that cost money really annoyed me..

The bright side of the short trip was staying at the Great Escape Lodge. It has an awesome indoor water park.. DD LOVED it! Next time we will just go to the hotel and use the water park (it included in your room price).

I know every place can't be like Disney so DH and decided when we need our theme park fix we need to head to "The World" for a little Disney Magic!!!

I wouldn't call it being a snob. Disney is just at a completely different level than other parks. Disney paints chipped paint nightly, other parks aren't that concerned about the little details. Not everyone can go to Disney for a variety of reasons-too far, too expensive, whatever. Most people here go at least once a year, some alot more than that. For those that don't love Disney like us on the Dis, there are places like these. Not bad for a day trip, but not a vacatin destination. Guess that is why I obsess about Disney and can't wait for my next sprinkling of Pixie Dust.

You can't compare a trip to WDW and Six Flags. As some said WDW is on a different level. You have to enjoy each park for what it has to offer.

We have a local amusement park here called Kennywood. And even though its not WDW, my kids still jump up and down and get very excited to go, as do I. I still love the place.

Yes, its not WDW. But since we don't live in Central Florida, every trip can't be WDW. But we love Kennywood just the same.

I agree with everyone.. I live in Northern Ny so I don;t get to Disney nearly as much as I would love to... I was just amazed at how critical I was. It seemed like I noticed everything...DD had a great time and that was what was important. Hopefully I haven't offended anyone with my observations. I was just expressing my thoughts and why I LOVE Disney so much!

I feel the same way when we go to Six Flags Great Adventure. But Six Flags is an Amusement Park, Disney is a Theme Park. My DS 5 can ride every ride but 2 at Disney. At Six Flags, he is too small for most of the rides, plus he has no interest in them.

Most of my students are "reverse snobs", I guess. We live 1 1/2 hours from Cedar Point, they live closer still. They go there a lot. When I talk about Disney they think I"m an idiot because for them, it's all about rides, rides, rides. Yes CP has the best coasters anywhere and we love going there as well, but when I go I miss the atmosphere and themeing and attention to detail, as well as the fact that people who do not like rides have almost nothing to do.

DBF and I went to Busch Gardens Williamsburg over Easter. I was so excited to go, remembering how much I loved it as a teen - the European theme. Now, it just doesn't compare to World Showcase. I was disappointed in some of the bigger rides (new since my last trip) which were supposed to tell a story or have a theme, but in my opinion were lame attempts. They were just thrill rides in disguise. Local amusement parks are ok for a day, but I wouldn't go out of my way on a trip for them! I live near Six Flags Darien Lake, which I rarely visit due to the $$$. Indoor water parks are getting very popular. I don't have any kids, but my sisters have gone to an indoor waterpark in Erie PA and they all loved it!

I'm a proud member of the Disney World Snob CLUB. As stated above there are amusement parks like Six Flags around ... from anywhere in the Us, then there is Disney a true theme park. Nothing compares to Disney, I don't just want thrill rides, they are a dime a dozen, I want the total package Disney gives us. I've also live in NY, central, upstate, somewhere in the middle near the PA border and have been to Six Flags Darien and Great Adventure, Sesame Place in Pa, SeaBreeze, and Water Safari, and for my 5 year old any of them are ok because she loves to go and "ride". However there is a certain light in her eyes, lift in her voice, and gait in her walk when we talk about our annual trips to Disney. She may love the rides at other place, but she Loves Disney because she feels Disney Loves her back. 31 days and I'll be visiting the only club to belong to.

I agree -- we're Disney snobs! I do the same thing when visiting other parks, like listed above. Another side of the "snob" issue....Does anyone else find themselves silently criticizing a newbie's travel plans when the attempt to sound so smart giving their details for an upcoming trip? My coworker and I go to WDW frequently and we both compare details on listening to friends relate their upcoming plans and thinking..."Yeah, right, like that's going to work!" or "You don't have a clue!" Am I the only one?

While I love Disney, it hasn't turned me into a snob and I'm glad of it. I took a trip to Cedar Point a couple years ago and had a wonderful time. They have a beautiful, sprawling, entertaining park. I'll definitely make the trip out there again. I also frequent Hersheypark, Kings Dominion, Six Flags Great Adventure, and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. All provide me with my amusement park fix. I'm there from open to close and am sorry to leave each time.

Disney is great, in a class all by itself. So I don't even try to compare the other parks to it.

I'm worse, I'm a RIDE snob and so is my dd (4)! We went to the mall and she rode on the Merry Go Round there. She got off and the ride manager asked her if she liked it and she said "It was okay, but it's not as good as the one at Disney".

But I do have to admit that Hershey Park is a close second to WDW for us. We love it and it's closer. But I am always comparing parks, resorts to Disney's. Nothing compares to them.

I DID TOO!!!! Hey we were socal neighbors! I don't live an hour from WDW but did move to Colorado. I miss socal, even with it's smog and congestion. To bbq weiners in a concrete ring at Balboa beach... or body surfing the wedge... ah yes. Well this is my 700th post. Ooohraaahhhhh!

I hate to but I have to jump on board. I compare everyting to Disney and it never matches up. As far as six flags goes, the new president had said within the last few weeks that they need to clean up the parks and try to eliminate the negative teenage kid image that has taken over. He said that this has turned off the moms and once you do that you don't get them back.
He was absolutely right. The last time I went to six flags, there were too many punk teenagers (some great one's also) that brought the experience down. I have never seen that at Disney.

We went to Canada's Wonderland (near Toronto in Canada) in early June and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why it just didn't measure up to Disney. I had a lot of time because I don't really like roller coasters so I spent a lot time waiting for the others in my party that do. Anyways- I decided the main difference was how inefficiently the park was operated. There was just no attempt made to improve ride capacity so every ride was busy even though it wasn't a very busy day at the park. There is only one dark ride there, and even though I thought the ride was pretty good, we waited for almost an hour because they only had 2 cars on the track that only seated (at most) 3 people each!

Eventhough Disney gets crowded I really like the fact that the attempt is always made to keep the waiting at at least tolerable levels where possible. When Disney rides have long lines its because the parks are really full and not because the rides are managed inefficiently.
