So a friend and I are going to Disneyland next week! :cool1: We will be visiting the parks Tuesday through Thursday. This friend hasn't been to the DLR in 13 years and is pretty excited. I want to make sure they have a good time and see everything they want to see.

Regarding Star Tours, is there a FP line at rope drop? I know there is a standby line on the right hand side of Main Street. Is there a different line for FP distribution?

My friend wants to see Fantasmic!, World of Color, Magic, Memories and You, and Fireworks. Since we will be arriving late morning on Tuesday, I am thinking of making this day a "show day". But I am woefully unskilled in the best way to handle shows since I am more of a "rides" person and skip the shows a lot.

Can I watch the Magic Memories and You show from the Small World area and then watch the fireworks from that same area? Or is that not a good view?

Can I make it from the fireworks to the later show for Fantasmic? Any tips?

I think World of Color will wait for a different day. :)

When we were there in late June there was not pre-rope drop FP line for ST. Only for standby.

You can make the first WOC or the fireworks and then see the late F! show on the same night. As for MMY, I really wanted to see that but it did not work out for us. But I think the timing is such you can see MMY and fireworks from IASW area. But you can't see very well - if at all - some the fireworks show things like Tinkerbell and Dumbo flights.

You can see MMY from Small World, and you can see the fireworks from there, but they won't be nearly as good as from in front of the castle. If its busy, I wouldn't even try to do both, I'd just pick one spot. I went on the 4th of July, which may have been a little different, but the area in front of the castle was packed way before MMY even started.

And there is time to get from either fireworks viewing location to see F!, you just might not get the best viewing spot. I didn't stay to see it, but I saw the people lining up. I decided to go on a few rides instead.

I'd also recommend seeing the Soundsational Summer Parade.

I was afraid that the viewing location from IASW would not be ideal for the fireworks. Ok, that just means we will focus on fireworks and fantasmic for one day.

Oh, and thanks for the Soundsational Parade tip, I will do my best to work it in! ;)

Thanks!

And LaserMan at DCA's ElecTRONica. A quick five-minute very cool show! :thumbsup2

Right out in front of MI. Check the Times Guide but last month it was twice a night at 8:45 and 9:15.

When we went in mid June- we watched the magic memories (interesting, but doubt we would watch this again) then jumped on the train at toon town and rode to the front of the park. Watched the fireworks from the top of the train station (thank you to the DISer that recomended this :thumbsup2) and then jumped back on the train to NOS to watch the second showing of Fantasmic. There was plenty of time for this and no feeling like a salmon fighting the crowds :rotfl:

Today, before rope drop, they suggested all Star Tours people be on the sidewalk on the right hand of Main Street. After the rope was dropped, and folks were approaching Tomorrowland, CM were out in force telling people that for standby they needed to go hard right, and for FP they needed to go ahead, then right, next to BLAB. It was fairly organized. Most people seemed to go ride standby and then get an FP. We did this and had a return time at 10:10 for that FP. I am not sure when FP ran out, but it was earlier than 1 PM.

I hope it is okay to hyjack the thread a little. I'm doing ST in Aug and just curious......if you want to Fast Pass and then ride ST, can only one person in your group go and get Fast Passes and the rest just wait at the entrance to the ride or is that not allowed?

One person can absolutely take all the admission media and obtain the Fastpasses. It is actually a lot quicker. If you are asking if the rest of the party can go ahead and get in line and have the one person join them, that is another question altogether. (And one that can generate a lot of passion, lol).

I don't like line cutting so that is not at all what I mean. I mean can the rest of the party wait at the opening of the queue for the FP person and then join up there to get into the line all together or is the line actually starting way back on Main Street meaning that it will add an extra 10 plus minutes to even getting into the queue? If it is the latter, then I'm guessing that I'll end up having to miss the first ride of the day to get the FPs while the rest ride.....I'd just like to ride too if possible.....but I'll survive if I can't. It's not like we don't go to WDW and DLR at least twice a year!!!

The line starts on Main Street. They have rope walkways setup in front of Plaza Inn and by Astro Orbiters to direct everyone. To get FPs and then rejoin the line - that is always controversial. For me when a line is outside like ST it is not a big deal because it is so easy to join up with your group. But for others it is.

Intriguing! Back in May, I watched the fireworks from the train station and was going to hop on the train and ride to NOS but they weren't running the train! Does anyone know why sometimes they have the train running and sometimes they don't? The CM at the train station said that they would start running the train again at 10:30 or something strange like that.

Side note: are the chairs for fireworks viewing at the train station a VIP thing?

Well it sounds like you would have to backtrack to Main Street if you wanted to meet them at the entrance of the queue. If the timing worked out you could meet them at the spot where the outside queue goes inside. Since it is just one person, I don't think it is a big deal for you to join them at this point.

Thanks for the responses. I guess that I'll be the FP person and if they are outside of the queue are and I can join without upsetting anyone, I will but if not, then I'll just skip the first ride. I really appreciate all of the help (and the hyjack!!)
