I am so stressed/happy/sad/confused right now. Ok, Dh and I live in VA and both have great jobs. The problem is I am not crazy about the area and it is way to expensive for us to stay. I really want to buy a house and start a family in the next 2 years or so. I hadn't told my boss, but we were looking at moving back to my home town of Rochester, NY.

The cost of living is significantly less there. The average price for a home is around $89,000 instead of $350,000 here. So Dh and I have been looking around for new jobs. Well my boss calls me in his office and tells me he is leaving. I am devasted. I have the world's greatest boss and to be honest, we make an awesome team. I am very happy for him, because I know he is doing what is best for him.

My problem is they have offered me a different position in the company. Much more money, but a bit of local traveling. I came clean and told him I don't know how much longer we will be here. It could be a year (God I hope not!) or we could be gone in a month. So I am stuck. I don't know if I want the new job, and what if I take it and then we move. I would feel horrible. I love my job now and I really get along with almost everyone here.

Sorry, I just needed to vent. I am here for another 2 hours and can't talk to DH about it. :confused3

Sounds like you've got an interesting decision to make. No advice, but here's hoping it all works out for you.

As an aside, DH and I lived in Rochester (West Henrietta, actually) for 2 years after college. We moved back home to Oklahoma when we were ready to start a family, but sometimes I miss it up there and wonder what our lives would be like if we had stayed.

Good luck with your decision!

What did your boss say when you told him you might move? If he left the job offer on the table, I wouldn't hesitate to take it. He has been warned about you leaving, and who knows, you might like it. Also think how much more money you could save towards a house if you stay put for 6 months or so. Good luck with your choice!

luvmy2sams- I grew up in Henrietta. Do you go to RIT? That is exactly what we are ready to do. My boss was suprised when I told him and said he would take to the President about it. I have a feeling she won't be too thrilled with still offering me the job knowing I might be leaving. I just feel so wierd about the whole thing. It is great for him, hes decided to travel for a couple months and is contemplating a big cross country move, but it will be wierd without him here.:guilty:

Nope...both DH & I had lived our entire lives in Oklahoma until the move to NY. DH was offered a position at Kodak because of some grad school research he was working on at OK State. We jumped on the offer (rather he did, and I was bribed with Bills tickets to come along :teeth: ). I worked for Paychex while we were there...lived just south of the interstate (90?) in a great apartment in Riverton Knolls. It was beautiful there...even the drive to work didn't bother us until the whiteouts came along. :earseek:

I hope that everything works out comfortably with your job situation. I've been in your shoes before....lots of big decisions to make. Sorry that you're going to be losing a great boss. They're hard to come by sometimes. Good luck!

If you go to Rochester, say hi to my sister, she lives there!

The job offer is probably off the table now.

Wow!That is so funny. We lived like 5 minutes from Riverton. And Paychex is one of the companies DH has applied to.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have decided to take the new job, because we have no idea when we are moving.
