Okay we are planning a surprise birthday trip to DL in September for our daughter turning 8. We have had a trip to WDW planned in October for 2 years now and it happens to fall over our son's 10th birthday (they have a break from school in Oct). I made PS today for Chef Mickey's for my son's bday dinner and my daughter burst into tears saying she can't help but feel jealous Matthew gets to be at a disney restaurant for his birthday! I felt so bad I almost told her we will be at Goofy's Kitchen for your birthday but hubby really wants to just surprise her the day we leave! I know I will regret it if I tell her, not to mention I am scared I'll let it slip! Wish me luck on keeping my trap shut!

I have surprised my kids once...and the only reason I was able to hold it in was that it was Oct. 2001, and we made very last minute arrangements due to finding a SUPER deal! I only had to keep my secret for about 5 days!!!!;)

Actually we are telling her tonight. Turns out she thinks she is maybe being punished in some way. Her brother is a much better student, everybody is always talking about how good his grades are etc. Poor DD just struggles and often feels left out of the high achiever loop. She has made several comments lately that her brother really deserves to go to Disney on his birthday because he does so good in school. So that's it, we can't stand having her feel second best cause she's not! DH is at the Disney Store right now buying her a stuffed Dumbo, we are wrapping him up with a letter Dumbo "wrote" inviting Maria to come ride him at Disneyland for her birthday. After all, it's meant to be fun and what difference does it make if she is surprised now or in September. Plus our school has a policy that work must be made up before a special trip so didn't know how we would pull that off since they will miss two days of school. Now I am so excited I can hardly wait to tell her in just a few moments! Talked with Grandma and she thinks Walt himself is smiling right now!

Isn't that nice. I can imagine how excited she'll be. :D

We told her, needless to say she was excited. I just peeked in her room and she is sound asleep holding the Dumbo that brought her the exciting news about her upcoming birthday trip to Disneyland! After reading Di$neydad's post about his daughter's lost lanyard and the Disney response, it reiterates how great Disney is!
