I am going to cry!!

Hubby went in for a follow up with the doctor and on Monday he has to go in for a hida Kinevac detail test to check his gallbladder. We are 5 weeks away from Disney, this can't be happening. now. If he has to have surgery what are the chances he's be healed in time to really go on this trip? We can't cancel with out paying a big fee.
Don't misunderstand I want him to do what he needs too and he's more important but it Disney on the Platinum package. I'm supposed to go Para sailing and swim with the dolphins.

Depending on when they decide to do the surgery, I think he should be fine. My husband had his gallbladder out a few years ago. He had it out in the morning and was home resting in the afternoon. He never even needed pain medication and he was back at work I think a week later. He says he could have gone back the next day. He had it done in July and in early August we went on a driving trip to P.E.I. and he felt well long before that. Now, your husband may react differently, but that's how it was for us.

If he needs surgery, as long as they can do it laparoscopically he should be fine. It is a very quick recovery. Often times it is outpatient - sometimes, it's a 23 hr stay, mostly for pain control. Meanwhile, make sure he eats a lowfat diet to not cause anymore problems. By the time you get to Disney he'll be able to eat to most things. Some people have problems with some foods after gallbladder removal.

I had my gallbladder out in February and know I would have been back on my feet within a week if I hadn't had my hysterectomy at the same time. That one was the one that took longer to recuperate from.

He should be okay if he needs the surgery. I had this surgery and like another poster said, had it in the morning and was home resting by afternoon. Recovery process was very quick. Good luck!

Oh I feel for your husband. I had mine out a few years ago, but I had a few complications along with it. If your husband gets up and walks the gas out (if lap they inject you with gas to inflate your tummy), then he should be fine. Just have him avoid greasy foods, or you will end up with multiple trips to the bathroom, or schedule the surgery after you return from your trip.
But the recovery differs from person to person.

What worries me is both his mom and sister had to have this surgery this year. His mom did great and was up and about in 24 hours, his sister didn't fair as well and it took her weeks to recover. Plus he has firm deadline at work and if he misses a few days for surgery he will have to find those days some where else and the only days he can take back are our trip days.

If it's through the belly button which mine was, I was home the next day, no problem. They told me not to drive but I was up and around just fine.

As long as he doesn't walk a lot and pull his stitches out, he should be fine. What a way to recuperate! Wish that had been my recovery!

He should do just fine! I went out and bought a new car the day after I had mine removed and then drove to the shore to walk on the boardwalk! I even got pictures from the surgeon! (YUCK!) The worst part is the shoulder (yes, shoulder) pain from the gas.

I had my gall bladder removed in March. By the third day I was home alone with my kids doing typical mom stuff. Now if I was in Disney I'm sure I would have been up and about on the second day.

I had mine out a few years ago. They did it laproscopidly (guessing on the spelling), which is basically that they make 3 really small cuts across the stomach and one in your belly button. They use instruments the size of pens with little scissors, clamps, etc. They go in, break apart all the large pieces and when it's empty is looks like a deflated balloon and they just pull it out. I was home the next day with very little pain and was back to work in a couple of days.

Hi Had my gallbladder removed few years back and was fine. The important thing was for me at least (was to move around so the gas would come out of my system, dr. said it comes out through the pores), I had a previous surgery and they never told me that, so I went home and laid on the couch, well I had pain in my shoulders for a day, (again I should have been up moving, but wasn't told to). I would be sure to check if he should move around. I was fine once that wore off. The incisions were sore, but not too uncomfortable. If he is having a hida scan (and I remember right I had one of those done, if its where they inject the substance, not sure what is, that did make me uncomfortable,made me feel sick to my stomach, it didn't last but was uncomfortable). But they were able to see it was my gallbladder, and were able to remove it. Now I feel great and have no problems with food. Hope this helps. Good luck to your husband!!!!!!!!!!
