First, let me just say how much I missed everyone here on WISH!! I tried to check the board daily, just to keep up, but being on vacation doesn't give you enough time in the day to post! I did miss you all though and I am back now for good!
I can't even begin to tell you about the train ride from hell, but I will share some details of this trip...One, I will never, ever step foot on another train for the rest of my life! Yes, it was that horrible! Two, if I ever even start to think about a train, please come and slap the crap out of me to wake me up!!
Okay, let see...We decided for this vacation to take the Amtrak from South Station in Boston to Washington, D.C. (with a 2 hour layover in DC both ways) and then DC to Orlando and the same thing coming home. On the way down, we were all excited as I had never been on a train before in my life, so I was looking forward to it. All was fine until we hit New Haven, Ct, and then we were delayed 7 hours as there were wires down on the tracks and they wouldn't let any trains in or out until it was fixed! We were supposed to arrive in DC at 7:30 that night and never got there until 2 in the morning!!! Now, had it been just me and John (my DH), it might not have seemed so bad, but considering I had my 4 and 6 year olds with me, it was horrific!! They wouldn't let us off the train because they were not sure when we would start moving again...they ran out of food and water almost immediately since I think people started panicking after 4 or so hours. The bathrooms started to clog and believe me that was not a fresh smell! It was just about as bad as it could get! Finally, when we arrive at DC at 2 in the morning, the Amtrak people are trying to explain to us what they are going to do, but only ONE PERSON AT A TIME! Okay...I am just a little on edge since it is so late, my kids are whinning with very good reason since they are starving and incredibly tired and my husband is about to blow a gasket! One at a time they took people in to explain, I waited about 10 minutes and finally I couldn't take it anymore, I called my uncle who lives in Alexandria and he drove us to BWI where we caught a flight out on Southwest at 8:00. Now, I understand things happen and this was probably a one time thing, but at two in the morning, with two kids under 6 years old who are hungry and tired, the last thing I want to do is wait a couple more hours to hear about what Amtrak was going to do! ARGH!
Okay, so we got to Florida, my parents picked us up and we had a wonderful time! My Mom is doing wonderful too! Her stitches are almost completely dissolved and she is much better!!
I did notice that she is talking a little bit slower than normal, but when I asked a dear friend about this, she told me that my Mom might not be fully recovered. She also told me that at the time of the surgery, she didn't want to tell me then that this was a major thing and very scary! I am actually relieved that she didn't tell me then because I probably would have freaked out on her...but anyway, thank you Marsha and Kath for all your support and comfort while my mom was sick!
Okay, so on to our return trip...honestly, if you are still reading this by now, you are either very curious about our return trip or bored out of your mind?
Well, we took Amtrak home ONLY because it was already paid for and since we spend about 700.00 on last minute airline tickets to go down, we had limited options. Well, all was fine until about 30 minutes outside of DC, Amtrak slams on the breaks (okay, maybe not slammed, but we all fell forward a little) and then John feels a bump on his side. We were sitting two on one side and two on the other, so he felt something, but I didn't. We sat for about 40 minutes before someone from Amtrak comes in to tell us that we have struck a person on the tracks!! WHAT?? Yes, that is right, Amtrak hit a 30 year old woman and killed her. They mentioned something about her 'trespassing', but anyway, I can't even think about that right now. I am still trying to swallow the fact that the bump that John felt was a human being!
So, we waited and waited and waited for the Police, the Inspectors, the Coroner and then the people (sorry I don't know the name?) who come and clean it all up. It was a horrendous experience to watch all this and I swear I will never forget it. We were supposed to arrive in DC at 11:00 am and we got there at 4:30 pm. The minute we got off the train, we called my Uncle, got to BWI and took the next flight out at 6:00 on Southwest. That is the end of that. I don't even want to think about it anymore.
Now, for the really good news! I seriously didn't stay completely on Atkins while in Florida!
I wish I could say I did, but I didn't! I ate and ate and ate (some good, some very, very bad), but when I got home today, I stepped on the scale (WITH SHOES ON!) and it was exactly the same weight when I left!!
I couldn't believe it! I did do some major walking and maintained my over 100 ounces of water each day, so maybe that helped?? But I did cheat, I won't lie about it...I had lots of wine (that Bet, she is just too much fun to party with!) and I had popcorn and pizza as well...it was so good too!! LOL I am back on Induction though as of today...I did have fun, but now it is back to work...I need to really get going on Atkins again. I didn't cheat as much as I thought I would, but I didn't deprive myself of anything either, so take it from there!
Now that this trip is over (thank God!), I can start working on my December trip! I am really looking forward to that since I get to meet you all then!! It should be lots of fun! I have to play catch up now on the boards, so anything new happen with you all this past week?
