I always feel weird...

Posting condolences, or kind thoughts in prayer and pixie dust request threads, forgetting to turn my sig off, and then having this picture of me smiling after I post in response to something that is usually really sad.

I know it's weird...but does anyone else ever feel that way?

I have to remember to turn my sig off on those threads...

I had no idea you could 'selectively' choose to turn your sig on and off for different threads.

ETA: I just went to edit...there is an option here..let me try!

Oh wow...you can!:)

Anyway...I know what you mean...but then, it's easy to just go back and edit out your sig.

I didn't know that either, but maybe when the poster reads the responds, it will make them smile by seeing your pretty smile.

I just post. I'm not trying to be disrespectful; it's just too complicated for me to be turning my sig on and off all the time. I also didn't know you could selectively turn it off.

I'd leave it on, I'm sure people believe your thoughts are sincere, and the smile helps the world seem a little better

That was so sweet of you. Thank you. :)

And to answer, yes you can select to turn off your sig. Right above the Submit/preview reply button there is a box that says Show Signature. It usually defaults to being checked off to show the sig, but you can uncheck it if you want your sig off. I'll uncheck in this post to show you. :)

But ... once you turn your signature back on, it will go on in that thread, right?

I think that's what happens. The picture you have in your signature right now is the picture that will be in the first thread you ever wrote on the DIS. If you turn off your signature, it disappears from all past and present posts, when you turn it back on, it reappears in all past and present posts. Isn't that how it works?

Regardless, I leave mine, I never even thought to turn mine off. :) I don't think anyone will think any differently E. I think those threads, people are just looking for words and comfort, and sometimes someone's picture can do that just as well as words. :)

Well I guess not, I just saw both your posts on this thread! LOL! :teeth:

No, that couldn't be the case Maggie, since one post on this thread from E has her picture, the other doesn't. Thats really neat, I never knew you could do that. Let me try it.

Dang, learn something new everyday! I want my baby boys back tho....... :)

E, I wouldn't worry about it, but I do have to say its sweet that you cared enough to even consider that.

Looks very empty without my guys!!

If you have your signature set to be on as a default, you can selectively turn it off on individual posts, like this. I used to turn mine off on threads as you mention, E, but generally do not anymore, thinking our signatures are part of who we are here on the DIS, much of how people know us. And as said, I think they can help to provide a smile, or at least comfort, to the one asking for support.

I do turn it off frequently when I 'rummage' back on pages 3, 4 and 5, sometimes 6, looking for threads with zero replies, or maybe a very important one that needs a bump.

FWIW, EX, don't worry if you ever need to post condolences or the like to me. I rarely see signatures.

I have my account set up not to see signatures. I'm on dial-up, and it loads pages faster that way.

I do flick them on once in awhile if I notice people talking about someone's signature--just to see what they were talking about. And so I saw your new signature picture for the first time today.

My, my! I thought you were a beauty in your old picture, but you are absolutely stunning in this new one. :)

Which reminds me--I need to tell HollyJoy how beautiful her daughters are. I saw them for the first time today, and I can't get over how gorgeous those little girls are.

I try to remember to turn off my signature clipart when I post condolences etc. Sometimes I forget, though.

Thank you! And I agree, HollyJoy's DD's are adorable. All the children here are! :) I can't count how many times per day, I call my BF over to my monitor to awwww over a cute child. :)
