What would have happened? Would I have lost my points for this use year? I have been a member for a few years and I don't know the answer to this.

They may give a one time forgiveness. I always remember to do this, but am surprised you didn't get an email reminder. I've gotten them before.

Unused and unbanked points expire at the end of the Use Year. Assuming you have a February Use Year, any unbanked 2014 points would have to be used for a stay by 1/31/2015 or they are forfeit.

Wow. I need to have a solid way of reminding myself. I did get an email a while ago but I forgot about it also. That's a steep penalty that I'm sure most don't make. Thanks for the help.

I use Outlook for my email so I set up an Outlook Task with a due date a week or two before my banking deadline. Since we can bank points at any time during our UY, most years I have already done it once I'm sure I won't be using any leftover current UY points or because I needed to bank them to make a reservation occurring in the next UY.

But just in case, it's helpful having that reminder pop up two weeks prior to the end of my UY. If I've banked my points, I just update the Task with next year's dates so it's back in the queue to remind me next year. There are other reminder type apps for either your PC or your phone or tablet or whatever you use regularly if you don't happen to use Outlook.

I also write it on the calendar in the kitchen since that is a calendar I check daily. Each year when we get a new calendar, I go through last year's calendar and copy over all of the important reminder dates (birthdays, banking deadlines!, etc.) to the new calendar.

As soon as you know for sure that you will not be using your points, bank them while you are thinking about it.

It actually happened to me. I forgot, called member services the very next day, and they said that I could not bank my points. Luckily I had already used half my points for the year.

What member services also told me is that I could deposit the points towards RCI, and that I would have up to 2 years to book that. Low and behold, I was getting married in 2 years, and I used it towards my honeymoon. I deposited the points that were going to expire at the end of the year into RCI. The year after, I booked a nice studio in Canada. It was 1 week for 120 points, + $100 booking fee. I really lucked out.
