I have some athletic clothes that no longer fit (lost 44lbs.) and the current bid on a set of pants and two tops for $28.75. I started it at $4.99. It always makes me nervous when the bids get that high cause I am always afraid the customer won't think it's worth it when they get it. At least I take real good care of my things and I haven't had a complaint about any of them yet...

Some things surprise me too!! I find a lot of things at garage sales in the Summer and a lot of it is stuff I think is "junk", but it's someone else's treasure!!!

Right now I have a large lot of my son's name brand summer clothes (gap, tommy, etc.) listed and it's at 71.00 for 33 pieces. I was hoping for at least $100 for it since they are all really nice, but there is still a couple of days left on the auction, so we will see what happens!!

I've been nervous too! I started selling my Dd stuff and was real successful...actually bought our plane tickets for our August trip then all of the sudden I had some bad luck. One lady wants to return stuff b/c she said there is a stain...I didn't see any stains but I'm human and could have missed something. Haven't gotten it back yet so don't know...another said the pieces were too "worn!" I use to take my DD stuff to a consignment shop and there was actually a list of folks she was to call when I dropped stuff off....I decided maybe I should start doing it myself... I think I'm picky so...(so does my DH) so I don't get it...I mean they are WORN clothes! Is there any suggestions to stop this from happening...I take it really personally...I'm also worried about bad feed back which hasn't happened b/c I've been very accomadating the 2xs it happened. Too much actually! I always say they are gently worn but in good condition...and I think so...tell me its just some bad luck!!!

Some of the things I list in large lots have light spots on them so I will put something like "these items are in great worn condition, but a couple of things might have small spots on them, which may come out if you are a handy launderer" I have never had a problem with anyone being unhappy with the clothes that I have sold so far (knock on wood).

I like that....to be honest though the ones I've had problems w/ are Gymboree outfits that went almost more than I actually paid for them! I think it has more to do with regret buying....but I'm starting to get quite nervous!!!! Now everytime I sell something at a high price I bite my nails till I get good feedback...I've also started not leaving feedback until its left for me...then at least I know I can respond if someone does something unfair. Not that it has happened but as I said I'm getting paranoid!

I bought a gently used Gymboree outfit because I was unable to get it in DD size. Gently used with no stains, piling or fade meant something else to this lady because I was not pleased. I left positive feedback and chalked it up to a learning experience. Now I will only buy new stuff. The things that I think look even the slightest bit worn go out at my garage sale.

People buy worn clothes on ebay...you should try listing them, you would be surprised. Last year I sold a "lot with spots" and they went for pretty high!! Lot's of people buy play clothes for their kids online too, so you would probably make more listing them on ebay than putting them in the garage sale.

I myself never purchase used clothes off ebay. I can usually find cheap things at Marshalls or TJ Max so go that route.

I have only bought thru ebay but I have a houseful of 'stuff' so now I'm wondering about selling. I have gone thru the tutorial but still wondering if it's worth the trouble considering the fees. When you sell a 'lot' of clothing I'm assuming they are all the same size but what about pictures? Do you include a few pics or none when you're selling several pieces in one lot? I have several nice skirts that are now too big since I've lost weight and I sure don't want to keep them around. Would you lump those as well or sell individually? Is it possible to state 'gently used' and include a quote 'as is' or is that not acceptable? I don't want the hassle of someone coming back to me for a refund.

BTW, I used to love to dress my boys in Gymboree clothing! Alas, they are too big now but I loved their stuff though quite pricey.

You will have better luck grouping clothing in lots as long as they are the same size or maybe a size apart. That way people are getting more for their shipping bucks. You could one pic of all the items together or separate pics. In my lots I usually put all the shirts in one pic, shorts in another, etc.

You could put a return policy on there...just say something like "all sales are final, no returns."

Between paypal fees and ebay fees, I figure that about 10% (a little less) goes to them and the rest is mine.

you definately want pics of all clothing whether you sell individually or in lots.I too have sold items for more than i paid for it.I sold DD princess coat last year and she had worn it all year to school but i do try to take very good care of my kids clothes and use stain stick and avoid the dryer on certain items.I was sooo nervous about bad feedback but the lady was happy as a pig on a hot day with it!!I have learned to not leave feedback first though.New buyers are the worst for leaving bad feedback when it is totally not even necessary.Last week i made 150.00 on items i had around my house.I sold a used cake pan for almost 10.00 i would have gotten maybe a dollar at a yard sale.Good luck to you all.I am cleaning out DD room tomorrow and she has loads of toys and clothes to list.We put all this money in our vacation jar and dont touch it.We have almost paid for our Nov.trip already.

The same thing happened to me with a Lands End diaper bag. I listed it as "used" with some wear. The lady who purchased it wanted her money back and claimed it was "unusable"...well, I don't agree with that, but...

I ended up refunding her money, plus all shipping costs. Ouch. I was a MESS through the whole process. I take things VERY personally (bad trait of mine ) and then I started second guessing all of my used items, whether or not they are good enough, etc.

I have 100% positive feedback and I am very honest in my descriptions. I am considering putting a "disclaimer" though, that condition of used items is subjective and if you have a problem buying used, then don't bid" Something to that effect.

Also, I have sold a few things for WAY more than I originally bought them for. One was my son's raincoat. I bought it for 9.99 at Marshall's and sold it for 20.99!! It was hardly used.
The other were some tub toys that my mother purchased for my kids. They were about 5 years old or so. Elmo toys. She probably paid $10 or $15 for them new. I sold them on eBay for $31!!! It never ceases to amaze me what people will buy and how much they will spend!!!

Anyway, with that all said, since January we have made nearly $900 just from outgrown toys, clothes, and items that have been stored in boxes and moved a few times! So, with all the running to the p.o, and all the listing, worrying, etc....it is WORTH it!!

If clothing is used or gently worn of course it is going to have some wash wear! Isn't that the point of USED. Its not going to look new. It amazes me... I'm afraid to refuse to refund the money b/c I really don't want to deal with any negative feedback! I know what you mean about not knowing what people will buy...I've yet to figure it out! If someone knows of something hot PLEASE let me know!

When selling toys, do you find it's more successful to list them separate or in lots? As soon as taxes are done I am sitting down with my digital camera and trying this out!!

Used toys don't do so well on ebay unless they are in large lots. Even then, it's not a hot seller. I just listed a large lot for 10.00 with some new things in it, and no bites. Little Tikes and Fisher Price seem to do pretty well though.

I noticed the same with same Fisher Price and Little Tikes things I had. I should have saved them for grandchildren LOL!!! They didn't bring much at all and they were all very lightly played with or new.

i just sold some blocks on ebay today and they only sold for 4.00 but a yard sale i would have probably only made 1.00 so i guess 4.00 is good.I love ebay.I also go to yard sales and if i find name brand clothing for like 1.00 i list it on ebay for say 3.50 that gives me a profit plus covers my listing fee. I love ebay have been on there for almost 3 years now and i love it.I am cleaning my DD room tomorrow so will post next week on how the toys do!
I did sell my sons playstation 1 on there and it fetched a pretty penny for us! I agree with toys and selling them in lots instead of individual.Since this is our first year to Orlando i may be hooked for life and have to ebay my way to Florida every year or at least every other year!!!
