Leaving from just north of Detroit is one way better than an other? Mapquest says I-75, Yahoomaps says I-77. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have always driven I-75. I went to yahoo maps and checked it out. Both ways are about the same mileage but I think I'd prefer I-75. There is a great book by Dave Hunter called along I-75 that is great to take along. Every page equals 25 miles and each exit will be tell what resturants, gas stations and hotels you will find at that exit. I'm also curious about others opinions.Susan

I take 77, but I'm in Virginia. I can't imagine cutting over to pick it up. We take 81 to 77 to 95. I'd stick with 75.

My DH and I have this argument every time we head south. He is from SE Ohio, so his WHOLE life he drove 77, I being from the SW part of the state, know that 75 is just BETTER.

Serously though, we usually take 75. We did drive back 77 last year from SC, and the drive thru WVa, and Va. seems too take forever.

Looks like we'll stick with 75, I just kept looking at the atlas and wondering if it would be quicker. Thanks for the info.

We took 77 last year from NE Ohio and liked it, but we're going Easter week this year. Any idea if Easter traffic is heavier on one vs. the other? I thought we might take 1-77 down and i-75 back???

The mileage either way is about the same for me from Central Ohio and for years we drove I77. This year we wanted something different so we drove I75 and I liked it better. I too can't imagine cutting across Ohio to pick up I77. The Along I75 book is great and we used it since my AAA office messed up our trip tiks.

We are driving I-77 versus I-75 this time. I personally think the scenery is prettier and it saves us a little time. Plus we can stop at the St. Augustine Disney outlet when coming into Florida that way. This is coming from near Detroit area

Would like to know from anyone that has traveled I75 and I77 and to tell me whats the difference. I live in Michigan and am used to taking I75 down, but just came from AAA and they suggest I77 due to some major construction in Tennessee! :moped: :confused3

I also live in Detroit suburbs. When we head down to Charlotte, NC for the Coca Cola NASCAR race we take I-75 to I-80 to I-77. Now it takes almost 3 1/2 hours to get to I-77 in Akron. If your heading to WDW I don't think it makes much sense.

In the 3 1/2 hours you can almost be thru Ohio (usually 4 hours to Cincinnatti).

I do have to say that we do enjoy I-77 of course we don't follow posted speeds, oops! We have a sports car and love the challenge of the road. We usually make it to Charlotte, NC (I-77 & I-85) in 9 hours. Gas and go (fast)!

Have a safe trip! :cool1:

Well looks like were taking I77 from detroit.......DH talked to someone who came up I75 just recently from Atlanta, and there is an area in Tennessee that is down to one lane because the southbound road is out so they have to use the northbound lane, each way is down to one lane for about 5 miles and heard it is very narrow, too narrow for semi's and it takes anywheres from one hour to 2 hours to get through!

Checked Yahoo map and I77 is approx. 1230 miles from me and is done in approx 18 1/2 hours, while mapquest says I75 is just under 1200 miles and is done in approx 19 1/2 hours........go figure since on the map it looks like I'm going out of my way in ohio when taking I77 :rotfl: DH says maybe its because taking I75 you go through a lot of big major cities and they may allow more time because of backup traffic during rush hours.

Love to hear from people that have taken both I77 and I75 :flower:

That area in Tenn. must be where they had the road slide away. I had forgotten about that.

As for the difference I thought the mountains through I-75 were much easier on my car, although I liked the views in WV/VA better. I hate the drive through Charlotte, it gets very congested and can be 35-45mph through there.

I just heard on Cincinnati Radio that the back up is over 4 hours! Looks like I am going another route

Thought I'd bump this up again, see if we have anyone else who has experienced the drive thru TN on I-75 recently. ~:)~
