A question for those of you who drive to Orlando using I-75 N:

We are driving from Orlando to Asheville, NC next month. Could anyone please tell me a town (or a particular hotel) about 4-5 hours north of Orlando? I prefer to have my ressies made for that evening, instead of driving in circles at 11 pm looking for a clean and inexpensive place to stay!

Any help is appreciated!

Sounds like about Valdosta, Georgia would be your best choice, with many major hotel chains represented.

I can personally recommend the Country Inn & Suites in Lake City, Florida (I was just there three days ago!), though it is rather less than 4 hours north of Orlando (maybe 3 - 2 1/2 hours). Jameson Inn is also nice, clean, and modern (and less expensive than the Country Inn), and is found in both Lake City and Valdosta.

You could also stop in Tifton GA. It is a little north of Valdosta (about 45 minutes). It has a number of hotels. The Holiday Inn was where we always put up people when I worked at the college there. But I know that they have also opened a number of other hotels since I left there (about 4-5 years ago). A Hampton Inn and Marriot Courtyard were being build when I left.

You can check out the Tifton city page at:

Thank you both VERY much! This way I can have a stopping point in mind, and make ressies (at hopefully a lower rate than walk-in) before we leave!

We will be leaving US/IOA around 6 pm (no real rush), and want to get 4 or 5 hours out before we stop. I predict the kids will be asleep long before we stop! LOL!!!

DC7800,
Does the Country Inn and Suites in Lake City have interior Corridors? Is it really clean?

Has anybody stayed at the Hampton Inn in Lake Park, GA? It also looks nice.

At Tifton there is a Masters Inn, very clean and inexpensive, but no pool. Cracker Barrel close by. Racetrak Service Staton just up the street, best price in GA or Pilot.

The Lake City Country Inn does indeed have interior corridors. As for how clean the place is, it's simply immaculate. Not a speck of dirt or even "wear" to be found in our room. It's really very nice.

We stayed at the Hampton in Tifton, it was okay. Clean and easy to get from the room and car. I think there was a Cracker Barrell next door with take out. (The last thing our kids wanted to do after driving from Dayton, Oh was sit and eat)

Thanks, I think we will stay at the Country Inn in Lake City. We can make a 6:00 p/m/ hold ressie.

Does anyone know anything about the Hampton Inn in Lake Park-Valdosta? I am thinking we might want to stop a bit before Lake City.

Where would be a good place to eat in Lake City with kids, sit down but easy as to we will be tired. Maybe even carry out but not fast food.
