We are driving from NC to Pop Century planning on arriving around 9am on a Thursday morning. I have driven I-4 before and I know its a bear most times of day. I hear that 417 is open now. Does anyone have experience taking this route? Where does it come out in relation to Disney? Where can I get directions going this way, since I always get the I-4 route when I use Mapquest?

Thanks,

Marsha

417 has been open for years. It is a very nice road and never very crowded. If you would like to arrive stress free I would suggest 417.

417 (the Florida Greenway) is a great, uncrowded road that goes from the airports south entrance directly to WDW.

I-4 is a road that was created as a torture device by barbarians, and is to be avoided at all costs.

So, where do I get on 417? And where do I get off for Pop?

Marsha

You can get on 417 (from I-4) near Sanford, after crossing Lake Monroe.
The difference between that and I-4 is about 17 miles and 12 minutes.

Another option is to stay on I-95 until you see the signs for 417 (50 miles past the I-4 exit off I-95), that adds about 30 miles and 25 minutes.

I have tried all three ways and the only one I won't use is I-4 through Orlando. I drive fast, but someone passed me on the left shoulder on I-4, in heavy traffic that was already going 15 over the speed limit!

So, I am assuming the difference between where you get on 417 is the amount of tools, right? Anyone have any info on the tolls, like how much and how many toll booths? I want to be sure and have the correct change for that.

Marsha

I can't remember the exact amount of the tolls, but I had a roll of quarters and a few single dollar bills, and was set round trip. I've taken 417 from 95 and from I-4 (drove down from NY last year; drive Orlando to Daytona and back often), and both routes are fine. Very peaceful, especially compared to scary, scary I-4 through Orlando!

Will it be obvious where I get off 417 for Disney? Or will I join back up with I-4 before then? Sorry so many questions...

Marsha

The exit is not obvious, it's exit 6 then straight under I-4 and into WDW.

Take Exit 101 on I4 onto 417
Tolls between I4 and 417 Exit 6 were 5.00 last October
417 Exit 6 leads into EPCOT Center Drive
.50 toll between Exit 6 and Exit 3
417 Exit 3 is Osceola PKWY for MK, MGM, AK
417 ends at I4

Most of the major toll boths are manned. So you don't need to bring a lot of change. I would have several dollars worth and some paper money.

Thanks so much--that is a big help! :thumbsup2

The 417 tolls are in this order from Sanford to getoff just east of Disney. $2.00/.50/.50/1.00/1.00. If you get off the first right exit past the toll you continue straight ahead past the 7/11 and the Marriott World Center to Disney. Go straight ahead to Disney and than follow signs to POP century. If you continue past that exit the next one is the Osceola exit and that toll is .25. Get off to the right and continue past the Gaylord Palms to the Disney Entrance. From Osceola POP Century is on your right just after you enter the Disney property. You will see the building. Make a right turn at the first stoplight, the left turn goes to the Wide World of Sports complex, and on down the road is the entrance to POP Century.

As the Travel Channel says: "And here's something you didn't know..."

If the tollbooth is umanned and you don't have the correct change, don't sweat it.
We arrived at a $.25 tollbooth without any change and had no option but to go through anyway, with the cameras going off. We talked with the National Car agent and they explained that Florida is very understanding and will let rental cars and out of state drivers run the unmanned tollbooths a couple times without repercussion.

I wouldn't try it too many times... ;)

Actually you have to take either Highway 50 or SR 528 first to get to 417 directly from I-95.

Thanks for this info. We're going to try 417 from the Autotrain station in September.

Is this true? I thought 417 was an exit off 95. :confused3

Oops, very true.
The exit I take go to Orlando is SR407 (exit 212), which goes to 528, then 417.
Last time I did this the tolls were about $5.

Okay, exit 212 off 95 to 528(East??) to 417(South?)

What are the specifics?
