I have decided that we ARE going to win the $10,000 in Disney gift cards at the church raffle, and that it would be great to put it towards DVC. (I still have to actually win, but we're calling that a technicality.):lmao:

OK, so where would we start?

We're a family of 5, and have never even seen DVC. We're both teachers, so our vacations are in August (as in: we leave this Wednesday at 5 am for the Poly!!!)

If you go about every year in August and stay mostly at places like the Poly, you need to become members regardless the outcome of the raffle. :)

Oh, we don't go every year. We're typically Lake George NY people.

Last year's trip was long-planned and included a 40% PIN. Then this year I've had some serious health issues (4 surgeries with 1 more to go, as well as a round of radiation.) So this year's trip is a present to me, regardless of the budget (and with a lot of help from the 4/3 deal).

If, somehow, we don't win (:)) next year we're back to Lake George!

I'd say to read up about DVC on these boards as much as possible and then schedule a tour to see the DVC models when you are at WDW. There are kiosks all over the place and you'll probably have some information in your room at the Poly on how to set up a tour.

And good luck on the raffle - what an awesome prize!!!

Yeah, isn't it great???

They're selling 500 tickets at $50 each. If they sell out, they stand to make a nice profit. They passed the break-even point about 2 weeks ago.

Can outsiders buy tickets? :rotfl2: (Seriously)

I suspsect you can sell all 500 tickets right here on this board if we can somehow verify the authenticity of the drawing. :)

that's what I was thinking! You could sell them easily here! :goodvibes

Oh, I'm not interested in SELLING, I'm interested in WINNING!!! Based on what I saw in yesterday's bulletin, they're almost sold out.

But it's a wonderful idea for a school or church fundraiser, don't you think??

Seriously though, if I were interested in buying DVC, how would I start? Do you tour EACH of the DVC properties? That could kill an entire vacation. Do you base it on location and just hope you'll love the resort? The fact that we're a family of 5 does complicate things a bit, since it seems that, for most properties, we would need a 2 bedroom.

You will tour in a centralized location in which DVC has models of each resort setup. The tour lasts about 2 hours or so. In the end we recieved some fast passes that were instant so when you inserted them your fastpass was timed for that exact time no wait. There is also daycare available for your kids which was great for us.They will let you tour a model of each resort but in the end AK, BLT and the property in Ca are all that is available for now from DVC. But hen there is also the resale market in which great deals can be found if you are willing to do the research.Either way the tour is fun and when it ends they take you to any park you want and drop you off at the front entrance. Good luck and have fun the DVC properties are great....

They only have models at the SSR DVC sales location of AKV and BLT that you will be able to see. If you are staying at one of the Epcot resorts they still have a model of BWV that you can go thru which might be helpful b/c those layouts are different from the new resorts. Other than that if you wish to look at other resorts you could try and see if DVC will drive you around but more than likely you'll have to arrange your own transportation to see each resort, and unless the front desk is able to take you up to a room you won't be able to see an actual villa.

DVC is able to sell you any DVC resort but if it's a sold out one you usually have to insist upon it since they are focused on selling the current properties. Resale is usually the best way to go on the older properties since DVC only offers sales incentives on the current ones.

Take a look at AKV lay-out. I believe the one bedroom sleeps 5.

Saratoga Springs Resort has the Tree House Villas which are 3 bedrooms sleeping 9 for the same points as SSR 2 bedroom.

Sad, very sad news:

We didn't win.
