Does anyone know anything about this hotel? After our nights at Disney we wanted a few nights at the beach. (This is in Newport Beach)

Thanks,
Jeannie

I stayed there for a couple of nights about 10 years ago. It was not rated a resort back then and is now. It's not right on the beach, but it is pretty and the location is convenient to use as a base.

Hyatt just opened up a resort in Huntington Beach about a month or two ago. This is directly across the street from the beach. It's a huge facility designed to attract conventions. You might be able to get a deal since it's brand new. The Hilton resort is right next door and also directly across the street from the beach.

I stayed there in November 2002. What would you like to know?

I stayed there 5 years ago and found it to be in a good location so much so that we are going back in June. The hotel itself is in lovely grounds and has three swimming pools. From what I can remember the rooms were good size and clean. The sports bar was also very nice especially for a meal at reasonable price with good atmosphere. The walk to Balboa Island is not too far and is a really neat place to spend an afternoon wandering around. The nearest mall is Fashion Island and is upmarket but for someone from England was quite an experience - open air and in lovely warm sunshine.
Tink33 any info would be greatly appreciated as I am sure things have changed in the past 5 years.

I was wondering if this hotel has interior or exterior hallways. Are the bay views nice? Would we need to drive to get to the beach or is it walkable?

Thanks,
Jeannie

Jeannie,
In 1998 the Newporter used to offer shuttle buses to Fashion Island and Balboa Island so we used that. Except on the way back from Balboa Island one day we couldn't be bothered to wait so walked!! It was a little way up a hill and across the main road but not too far for most people of average health etc if you don't carry too much in your bags!!! The hotel from what I can remember has interior hallways as each room has a balcony or terrace. The bay views should be nice from what I can recall, as we had a room facing one of the pools.
Hope this helps.

We are considering a last minute vacation to this resort because of a good deal, it is toddler friendly?

Hi Jeannie, I just returned from a stay at Hyatt Newporter from 3/28 through 4/2. We got this on priceline.com for 29.00/night. There are about 5 separate areas of rooms--main building, building surrounding main pool, villas, Lido and Balboa buildings (each with their own pools and hottubs). The grounds are beautiful, the people are very nice, on-site restaurant was OK, small gift shop, express sandwich/coffee shop, and sports bar. They have complimentary shuttle to Fashion Island Mall and Balboa Island. We didn't use the shuttle since we had a rental car. It only took us about 10 minutes to get to the beach by driving and we had a great time. The Balboa Fun Zone was awesome for the kids. We also did some whale watching from here. The rooms were fine. I've stayed in better so I wouldn't call them luxury--they were just rooms but not dirty. As for inside or outside hallways, there are both. Balboa has inside hallways, Lido has outside. They look like a motel door near the pool but on the other side of your room is a sliding glass door (we had a golf course view).
The only negative I would have about this property is that the self parking is quite far. I was not looking forward to it after returning from DL. Enjoy yourself!
