My wife and I are heading to Disneyland and SoCal for the first time and we are planning a 3 day trip just for Disneyland while we're out there. I am looking at hotels and trying to decide which on to go with. I'm a Hilton Diamond Member so I would prefer the Hilton Properties, but I'm open to others.

Out of the Hyatt House / Hilton Anaheim / and Homewood Suites, which would you go with?

We have stayed at the Hilton Anaheim and the Homewood Suites. It really depends on what you are looking for. For us, the advantage of the Hilton is it is generally cheaper and it has a built in Starbucks. And being Diamond status you will get a breakfast coupon for a pastry and coffee from the Starbucks each morning.

The advantage of the Homewood Suites (and why we stay there with our kids) is the size of the rooms. All 6 of is fit without issue and if grandma is coming along we can get 7 in the Family Suite. The full, hot breakfast (every morning) and dinner offerings (M-Th) are really nice. The rooms also have a full kitchen so you can save money that way by ordering or picking up groceries.

Are any of these within walking distance? We have Hyatt House and Homewood Suites on our list to consider but worried about walking with the little ones.

That depends on how you define "walking distance." We walk from the Hilton every time we stay there without any problems, but we like walking (hey, that walk means more treats!). It's about 15-25 minutes or so from the gates (taking Katella to Harbor), depending on the signals and crowds. (It is much longer going Katella to Disneyland Dr., although we go that way, too, when we are heading for the DLH.) Some people prefer to walk from the Homewood Suites CC (and, possibly, from Hyatt House, too -- haven't read a post yet on this) to the Toy Story lot to take the free shuttles to and from the parks.
One thing to check: if staying at the Hilton, see if there will be a convention going on during your stay. That can make a big difference with how crowded the lobby will be in the mornings, how crowded the Starbucks will be (although the OP will be able to use the special HH register), and how long the wait for/how crowded the elevators will be. Also, that Starbucks can change their hours without much notice, so it helps to ask the baristas each morning what their hours will be that day.

There are 2 Homewood Suites. If you book the one that says convention center, you'll be closer to Disneyland and next to the Toy Story parking lot. The Homewood Suites that calls itself "main gate" is about 20-30 min walk from the parks. I've only stayed at the main gate location, as well as the Hampton Inn which is about the same distance from the parks. Both are fine, but charge for parking and will charge you for the shuttle to the parks if you use it. They have nice breakfast layouts.

I've read great things about the Hilton Hotel.

Hyatt House is closest. It's a very easy walk for able bodied people. If your kids are very small, it may feel like a far walk at the end of the day.

You could stay at Homewood Convention Center and use the Toy Story shuttles to get to/from the park.

Thanks OP for asking this question! I like the idea of Hyatt House. Not really a fan of shuttles as we like to rely on our own 2 feet (well all 12 of them). Just got back from 60 miles of walking at ADD and the 2 oldest did great. The 2 youngest had the stroller. But we might be stroller-less in time for Disneyland in 2020.

My wife an I are staying at the Hyatt House in June. It seems like a really amazing location.

Love the Hilton, they’ve been awesome to us there. We don’t eat there really other than Starbucks, but it sure is nice to grab that coffee in the morning! We usually drive to the park but ART stops right in front as well. You could also look at Uber for the way back if you decide to walk there but are zonked by the end of the day.

If it’s just you and your wife, the Hilton rooms are more than enough, they are very roomy even when we have 3 kids with us, but perfectly spacious for a couple.

Also, there are quite a few fireworks view rooms that aren’t designated (read:cost more) fireworks view. 9327 and the adjacent rooms and floors above and just below have excellent views of the fireworks! They use digital key and choose your room in the app and we always try to grab this room or one nearby.

We stay at the Hyatt House while in area for business about every six weeks or so. We always get a room with a kitchenette, the rooms are similar to a medium apartment. Great beds and bathrooms with extra area for work, plus large couch and chairs. The breakfast is absolutely great with everything from eggs to waffles to fresh fruit. It is several blocks to DL but, they do have a shuttle that will pick you up and take you to DL whenever you want if you don't feel like walking. We have used a taxi several times after late dinners in Downtown Disney. The morning coffee bar is great as well, having about every kind of morning drink you can imagine. Afternoon and evenings they fix about every adult drink you can think of. Can't really say enough about the wonderful staff Hyatt has, they are always ready to help. And as a bonus, Walgreens is literally next door. :cool1:

Are adult beverages included somehow or do they just happen to have a really good bar?

I would pick the Hyatt House. We have stayed at the Hotel Indigo across the street many times and that area is not a bad walk at all. It takes my wife and I about 10 minutes to walk to Disneyland. It's a pleasant walk with side walks. The area where the Hyatt House is has a number of places to eat, a liquor store, a CVS and Walgreens and a 7-11. That Hyatt House is also pretty new. Maybe a few years old, or less.

Also for even more context... and if you're WDW vet's like us. Google Map's measurement tool says the walk from Hyatt House to the gate is roughly the same distance as it is from the bus stop to the front of World Showcase in Epcot. :moped::car::sail::snail:

The Coffee/Adult drink bar is extra. It is completely separate from the morning breakfast area. The Breakfast is included with the room, once again. the coffee/adult drink bar is extra. It is priced by the drink for custom coffee drinks or adult beverages, prices are quite nice, or at least I like them anyway. The hotel is not completely filled with DL guests like a lot of the area hotels, a lot of the "regulars" are there on business like we are. :cool1:

Regular coffee, decaf coffee, milk, juices are in the buffet area with the breakfast food items. The coffee/adult drink B A R is separate as mentioned above. Didn't want people to think regular coffee was not included with breakfast. :drinking1

Sounds like between that and the Starbucks right outside all of the coffee needs are covered. Thanks!

We are also Hilton diamond members, and the Hilton and Homewood Suites- Convention Center are our go-to off site hotels. With it just being the two of you, I’d probably lean toward the Hilton.

We tend to prefer the Homewood Suites for their larger room size and the slightly shorter walk to the Toy Story parking lot. The Hilton is only a minute or two further from the shuttle pick-up area, so not a big difference. But with little ones, those few minutes can be torture by the end of a long day.

As a diamond member, everyone in your party staying at the Hilton receives a voucher for any size drink and pastry from the onsite Starbucks each day. We prefer this to a continental breakfast as we are not big breakfast people and enjoy a decent cup of coffee. We also prefer grabbing something and heading to the park as opposed to sitting down to have a bite.
