Hyatt Grand Cypress or Doubletree Guest Suites

I hope someone can help me decide.

Its our annual family trip to WDW in January . It will be me, my DW, 3 DS (12 yrs., 10yrs., 20 months), and my DD (3 years).

I reserved a room at both hotels, I heard that the Hyatt is walking distance to DTD, and I know the Doubletree is also (we usually walk there 1 day of our trip).

I know the property at the Hyatt is AMAZING, but I feel that it just might not be enough room, especially when its time for the little ones to go to sleep.

Please help me decide which one I should do.

Guess it depends what you consider walking distance.
I have not been there. Perhaps there is a back way.
It is walkable, depending on how far and much you like to walk.
Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is off 535. But the part of 535 that does not intersect with Hotel Plaza Blvd. It's actually down Hotel Plaza Blvd from DTD, make a left, go down to where 535 makes a left and up a little bit. (Maybe a block or two on the second left.) And then it even seems to set back quite aways.
If I were you I would call the resort and ask them, or do a mapquest search from an address near DTD, such as one located on Hotel Plaza Blvd and see if you consider it a walking distance that you don't mind.

Are you staying in just one room at the Hyatt?

I've stayed at both. We stayed at the Hyatt for 3 nights in the beginning of our honeymoon, and it wasn't great for us. The room wasn't that big, and the staff was super unfriendly. When we decided to switch to the GF, I even told them we were leaving early and not happy there, the reply I got from the bellman was, Okay, bye...

The Doubletree Guest Suites may have a plain pool, but the location is really good, and although it's not luxurious, you'll have a lot more space. With the pull out sofa and two other beds, you'll have room to put little ones down for a nap or bed and you can shut the door. Although the property isn't as exciting, I'd probably lean towards that for the location and the space.

I do think the Hyatt has big suites and condos as well. They are laid out on a golf course - haven't stayed there. You definitely will need a car at the Hyatt - I don't recall being able to walk anywhere from there.

The Doubletree is at the far end of the Downtown Disney hotels from DD, so it would be a long walk. They have buses though, and you can drive. I'd have a car - parking at DD is easy usually, and I've heard the buses don't run as frequently as at the Disney hotels. From DD you can catch the Disney buses.

I guess my vote is for the space at the Doubletree.

Have had nothing but great experiences at the Hyatt...I would chose that over a Doubletree 9 times out of 10.

If location is the main selling point, then the Doubletree is more convenient to DTD. The Hyatt is a much nicer hotel with far better amenities in my opinion however, and I would always choose Grand Cypress over the Doubletree.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

The Grand Cypress is a luxury resort while the Doubletree is a budget motel.

I wouldn't call the Doubletree a budget hotel. Its not a luxury hotel but its certainly not a budget hotel either.

Just stayed at the Doubletree. The day we decided to sleep in. The grounds people were there at 7:30 weed eating and trimming trees. The bus service is HORRIBLE, took us 1hr to get back from Epcot one day. If you stay there, ask for a room not on the bus side. The busses run until about 11pm and it sounded like we were on top of the bus. The laundry room was filthy, the staff was rude, the elevator kept getting stuck between floors, The byfold doors do not block out light or sound, not much different than hanging a curtain. I've never been so happy to leave a place.

The Hyatt is DEFINITELY not in walking distance to DTD. That being said, I do like the resort very much (but have only stayed there on Club level with points). Their resort fee covers almost *everything* - paddleboats, bikes, sailboats, executive par-three golf, etc., etc. Plus they usually have some kind of kids activities and also have a kids center/babysitting service on-site. And the pools...very very nice.

The Hyatt rooms are not big enough for a family of six, no matter how young/small the kids. Are you staying in one of their villa units?

The Hyatt seems to have pretty decent bus service to the parks, but I hope you're renting a car. It was worth it to us when our DD was little - every single WDW trip there for a while we seemed to need to go see a Dr at Urgent Care & that can be a hassle if you're relying on taxis/shuttles.

One last thing....the Hyatt is undergoing a property-wide rolling renovation. That might have some impact on the ambience with construction noise, etc.
