Husband's Observation

My husband and I were discussing wheatear on not to dine and the Brown Derby w/ Fantasmic or do Hoop de doo.

He has never been to Disney and does not quite get it yet.

He stated that he no longer wants to know of any changes. And it way too much planning for a “simple” vacation. He then said, “you are spending more time planning this vacation then we'll actually be there.

Isn’t planning half the fun? Well, I hope he’ll be a convert soon.

You know my husband said something similiar to me a couple of years ago. he thought especiallly because we had been there a bunch before this specific trip. However he has changed his toon since then and only encourages my "planning", here's why: 1. I enjoy it and if I am happy... well you know the rest of that story 2. We spent less time waiting and more time doing. 3. We had a different vacation than all of the others...saw new things, ate new things. 4. I saved us $$... which makes him happy! 5.And I enjoy doing it (errr.. so I guess I said that already!)

For me planning really is half of the fun, not only does it enhance your vacation because you will have a wealth of knowledge to disperse at appropriate times but you will enjoy doing it! and when your happy .... you know the rest of that story too!

My husband feels like I am getting too much information. He thinks you can just go. He doesn't get it. Thank goodness I am doing the planning. When I talk to him about ADR's, he thinks I am speaking in Disney Tongues!

I'm sure that your husband is into something that he talks about that you could use a little less information about.

For me, I know, it is a hobby. I have learned, not to give too much detail but let him live out the fruits of my labour and be happy with his vacation.

For those of us who consider this most of the fun, it is true. I just heard a while ago on a program that I was watching that humans enjoying an event/trip/activity actually spend 50% of their enjoyment on anticipation.

So yes, it is a lot of planning if you aren't into all the details...

One thing I have found is not to over plan. The first trip, we went into it blindly, didn't know all the tips. Last trip, I planned to much and spent a lot of my trip 'looking ahead' to the next thing. Just my point of view.......

Even if your husband doesn't get full into the planning, he'll appreciate that you did! My husband isn't a big planner - and I am a huge planner. At first this was difficult to understand, but looking at it objectively, it's a nice balance - I like to plan, and we both have fun. I involve him in the big decisions of planning: where to stay, any particular restaurants or tours we want to make sure to hit, etc. I think that planning is a big part of the fun, but that's the beauty of WDW too, you can have a fab vacation even if you are more spontaneous. Here's hoping your husband joins in the planning, and if not, I'm sure he'll still be excited about the trip!

I agree. I'm not into planning every last thing. It's basic a loose plan of action. Even with just that, it's still a lot of work. But I do love it.It's a graet hobby.

Well, they are quite a bit different. Brown Derby is more proper and fancy. Hoop Dee Doo is more laid back and casual. But Fantasmic comes with BD, which is an awesome show if you haven't seen it.

Yes, there is a big diffrence. I just can't decide to do fancy or casual. We have two credits to use per person for this meal. I canceled CG for HDD. And now I'm thinking of canceling HDD for The Brown Derby w/fantasmic. I just can't decide.

We've done both but my all time favorite is the HDDR.

Nothing can beat a felaxing night away from the parks and crowds. To me the chicken and ribs and all the beer and sangria you care to have is a night to remember. The shows great, even though we've seen it a dozen times, we still laugh at the corny lines, the characters are great and the whole hall gets into the swing of the thing and participates along. Its pricey but worth it to us.

Fantasmic is a great firework water play, something not to miss, but you can snag a seat and its free. We do the Brown Derby for lunch, just about the same meals, only cheaper and for our big blow out dinner we do the Yachtmans Steakhouse at the Y&B resort. the Top sirloin and lobster adder will set your head spinning and the fresh baked rolls and roasted garlic are to die for. Its our highlight meals.

Brown Derby is DW & my fav eatery there...
It's a great combo deal Disney has...go for it!

I have done both a couple of times and if he is not going to get into the hokey side of the HDD than do the Brown Derby. Its a nice quiet dinner and will show a different side of Disney(a mature Disney) to him. Good Luck, btw my dh lets me book whatever and he just likes to show up!!!

My DH doesn't quite understand the obsession either, yet, who is the one that volunteers me to help someone he knows that is going? He does understand that my obsession can only benefit him in the long run.

I had wanted to go back this fall for a quick trip on the free dining, he asked if I would mind going next spring instead..........are you kidding, all the more time to plan, 5 more months is of planning is fine with me! Then I get to spend the winter preparing rather than being envious of everyone else that is going.

DH says that he is always very happy with whatever I have planned on our trip...."so plan to your hearts content"

My DH is at a loss trying to understand the amount of time I am putting into booking this, our first WDW trip. He keeps saying "I thought it was all done??" Actually I am a little surprised myself at how addicting it can all be - the planning and these boards. I can't believe how much I look forward to catching a few minutes at the computer to log in and just pretend my trip is next week and not in Sept (seems SO far away). Does anyone else have some way of explaining this need to get a fix of Disney simply by chatting with other fans? What is it about reading about other peoples' ADRs and resort choice turmoil that creates this feeling? Do other people have close friends or family members as "into" it as they are? I find it hard explaining to people how I am spending my free time these days...I also find my laundry pile is growing to uncontrollable heights!!!

Do I ever! My Aunt keeps saying "There is more to do in Orlando than just Disney" Yes, I know, but I don't care!!!!!

It's vey hard to expalin the magic that is inside Disney to outsiders.It's something you have to feel, it's impossible to put into words.

I understand completely how you feel. I also try to sneak in time on the DIS and I feel like I just want to plan..plan..plan! I LOVE it though. It really is addicting as is my love for Disney. I think some of my friends and family think we are "brainwashed". We are also raising our children to be Disney obsessed.
Quite frankly, I wonder what is wrong with them!!! I think they are missing the magical/pixie dust gene.

I cannot wait until our trip in Sept. WATCH OUT DISNEY...HERE WE COME!!!

I didn't read the other posts yet, but I'm a guy and I love to plan and my wife just sits back and rolls her eyes. I am the Disney nut in the family. Although she enjoys it she says we should go once every four years and I say I want to go every year. Oh well.

I got her down to every other year.
