Okay, I know there have been many discussions here about this sort of thing lately, but I'm still not quite sure about the policy with Silver Pass. My husband and I will be heading down to the world in a few days. Other then entry to the parks, is he entitled to any discounts, shopping,Disney Quest or things of that nature with his Silver Pass if I am not with him at the time? It does have his name on it. But I'm not sure of the policy. Thanks!

I was there a couple of weeks ago. My wife is the cast member and I had the silver pass. I was able to get shopping discounts, but since I had no ID, I had to know her social. I had no problems.

My husband used his SP to receive the CM discount on golf without me there to check him in last time. That makes it much easier!

You may find people willing to make an exception for you (or people who don't know the rules), but all the silver pass entitles a spouse to (if their name is on it) is park admission and parking.

Not according to the people I spoke with at the Magnolia course. I was told that I did not need to be there as long as my husband had his SP and a copy of my CM ID on him, and I was very specific in my inquiry prior to leaving home.

I was not aware that silver passes entitled spouses to shopping discounts, I was always under the impression as Safari said, that it just entitled you to admission/parking.

I'd see where they might be a little more tolerant if a spouse shows up for an activitity, such as golf, bikes, water rides etc., but never thought they were able to use them for shopping discounts etc. Interesting...

I'm just a little confused as to why just knowing someone's social would give you the discount along with the pass, (glad you got it by the way, not being argumentative here at all, just curious), when we know from experience and chats here on the boards that people carrying Team Disney cards are often treated and told the discounts don't apply to them, when we all know they do, and you have to jump thru hoops to get them to honor that discount. Again, just curious.

People come to the gate all the time with the Cast ID and main-gate pass of a CM they're related to, however, if the CM is not present, the ID and Main Gate must be confiscated. Unless your name is printed on the pass and you have your own photo ID, you are not entitled to benefits from it. The only benefits expressly connected to the Main Gate/Silver Pass are park admission and parking.
Having someone else's ID or knowing their SSN does not prove anything, and I would hope that our CMs are not encouraging that type of thing (what's to say I didn't just find your wallet with ID, SS card, etc inside?)
Now, If I were working in a shop and a spouse came in with a silver pass with their name on it, and they had their own driver's license proving that the pass belonged to them, and if it were possible, I might occasionally make the exception and grant a spouse the discount. However, IDs are typically scanned or swiped to record use and validity, so I don't think that's a very likely scenario, and if it were, it would be an exception.
Golf, they might be able to no sweat, and if so that's VERY NICE of them, but they aren't required to do it.

Steve. what you are conveying has been my interpretation of the silver pass deal. As just a regular CM, I know that my spouse is not entitled to my shopping discount outside of TDS (where with their proper little ID card issued they can get a discount at stores), so I wouldn't be inclined to have them ask for it if they were alone shopping. Again, the only issue I've had is when a spouse has a Team Disney card, they are supposed to be afforded the discount, no questions asked (other than to prove with ID they are who the credit card states they are).

Again, not being argumentative, just always curious. I would hate to see anyone get in "trouble" or have their passes, ID, confiscated.

Actually, we were told that the Main Gate and Silver Passes do entitle the spouse to the shopping discount as long as his/her name is printed on it, and he/she has a valid picture ID (driver's license, state issued ID, etc) at WDW. However, the Maingate pass does not entitle the spouse to our dining discounts. I don't know if this has changed, but we were told in Merchantainment that it was acceptable.

It isn't mentioned at all in the maingate pass guide, which tells me that the merchandise discount is a bonus.

That must be it, Steve... now you have me wondering, though. I don't want to be doing something wrong, or that has been outdated, so I will check when I go in tomorrow. We have many spouses of guests who come in and shop with their Silver passes....hmmmmmm!~

Thanks!

My husband has his silver pass and it has his name on it. He has on multiple occasions been in the gate at all the parks along with our kids but without me. He has always been asked to present his photo id or drivers license and has never had any problem. He also has shopped all over the world and again never had a problem getting my 35% discount.
Could it be that the maingate passes are a different set of rules than the silver passes from the store? I know that we have many corporate cm's in Atlanta,ie ABC radio and t.v,espn, Bueana vista distribution...and their spouses come in with silver passes and we honor the discount just with their i.d.

I think the maingate pass may be a little different from a silver pass. After 11 years, my husband has never had a problem getting his discount. That is what he is supposed to show to get his discount, or a Team Disney Card if you have one. I really don't know anything about the maingate pass working for the stores but it seems from this discussion that it is probably different.

This is straight from the merchantainment workbook given out in the class:

Discounts on merchandise at WDW are offered to: Spouses/Domestic Partners of eligible CM's or Retirees, with a valid Blue, Silver, or Gold Main Entrance Pass, accompanied by a valid photo ID. A "Dependant Discount Verification" card issued by the Disney Store is not valid for this discount.

Hope this clears things up.
