I know it shouldn't matter what other people think...but can't people be mean? I was just telling one of my "friends" about our upcoming Disney trip and she told me how stupid it was to keep spending money on going to the "same place and doing the same thing" all the time (especially because we don't have kids...you know why would ANYONE go to disney if they didn't have kids? :confused3 ). I know people don't get it like we all do, but why can't they be happy and just let it go?

I know you all understand :goodvibes

I don't know about you, but I hardly do the same thing all the time! Each trip is a very different experience, and we are always excited to hear about new things to try and do.

Still, I get that your friend wouldn't get that. And I find that in the face of those sorts of situations, humor is always the best response. Something like, "I know, we are so uncreative, aren't we! But we can't all be blessed with your gifts!"

:sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

I am going through the same thing with some coworkers... One friend has planned a trip in April, but they are staying offsite somewhere, and she can't understand why I don't think that's so great!! :confused3

 You know, I see post here all the time about this exact thing....... it's a shame that people can be like that. I appears that in most of the post on this, the persons are just jealous. I wouldn't let someone's negativity spoil my trip!!

My son told me something a few years ago......... and now I use it as my "mantra"...........

" Mean people suck "

SO, keep on making your plans, keep on telling everyone how excited you are, and enjoy the fact that you and your DH are having a wonderful time together.......... perhaps that is what they are jealous about......... and the next time she say's "why are you going, you don't have any kids..........."
Point out to her that you and DH really really ENJOY working on those kids at the happiest place on earth................. :rolleyes1

We love hearing about it........ and we love Disney........... so you can always come here and share............ :grouphug:

I hope you're not giving her hurt feelings, because she's not staying on site.

I agree, EVERY trip we take is a unique experience and priceless to us. Some people will NEVER understand. Send some "pixi dust" their way...... :wizard:

Yep, I get it too!!! My adult children just roll their eyes now....dh, 32, has actually been to WDW but that was back in the late 70's and dd, 29, has never been. She just doesn't get it. But, we have a different experience every time we go. There are people that ask why we keep going back to an amusement park...however, they go to the same place on the ocean everyear or to the same lakehouse. We are trying to branch out a bit now that dd, 12, is getting older. But we won't be stopping those WDW trips, just adding other places to them.

I get this all the time, with WDW and Vegas.

"Why you going again, you just went 3 months ago"
"You must be a big gambler"
"Don't you get tired of doing the same thing?"

And I just say...

"It's a Disney(or Vegas) Thing, you wouldn't understand"

Thats why I love the message boards/email groups. So I can be able to have others understand and relate to my obsession(s).

I am single, over..uhm..40, female, and I go to WDW/Vegas by myself all the time (ok been to WDW 4 times so far, DL, 4 times so far, Vegas 6 times so far). I find plenty to do other than what people think these places entale. Both places are about the WHOLE experience, the parks, the water parks, DTD, shows, other attractions (Vegas), and both places for me, are about

FOOD :rotfl2:

cause I do love to eat.

I get the same thing! We went to Hawaii 3 times and people acted like we were doing something wrong! I also get it with Disney! I am not telling anyone that I have planned a surprise trip for my DH 30thbday this oct. I don't want them to get on my nerves with this negativity. Most of the people who say something hardley travel at all so I don't think they should coment. I did tell the lady who waxes my eyebrows and she was also like," you don't even have kids?" I know where we have fun so I am going to take it with a grain of salt, but it does hurt your feelings when you are working on something and people are so negative about it! Whew, that felt good to get out! I guess I had some pent up anger!lol :rotfl: Have a good trip all!!

My mother in law always says that we go to Disney way too much....She goes every 2-3 years and that is more than plenty. She also spends 8-9 thousand per trip because she takes my sister in laws' family of four and pays for everything. 2 rooms at the BC, character meals, souveniers etc.... I just let her ramble on about it because it is none of her business how many times our family decides to go. We know what makes us happy :goodvibes I certainly do not tell her how to spend her money. I feel so much better now just venting!!! Pixie dust to everyone and have a magical day :teeth:
Next trip: Oct 2005 AKL

If people can accept so many families, especially here in the Mid-Atlantic states, go the same beach each year, the same thinking goes for going to WDW each year. Many of the beach people go to the same hotel or rental each year too. And most of those places are not as much fun as any onsite resort at WDW.
Just remember there are some people who just don't get it at all. More space and shorter lines for the rest of us. :cool1:

 I agree with everyone else, don't let negative people get to you! I know plenty of people who've gone to WDW without kids, and I think those people who think its only a kid's place have never really been there. And each trip is not the same! New experiences, new attractions....I've gone to the same hotel at the beach the past 3 summers and each trip has been unique and different! I hope you and your husband have a great trip! ::MickeyMo :wizard:

i think it is kind of funny...people buy timeshares to places all the time and lots of those places have basically a beach to go to. now THAT is a boring to me but some people love it so who cares as long as i don't have to do it :)

What I don't get is why people feel the need to say anything at all! I don't criticize other people's vacation choice! I always hope that they have a good time and wish them well! Oh well! 41 days to go! :hourglass

Well said...

We get the same thing!

A sampling of questions we get on a regular basis......

Didn't you go last year? How many times have you been to WDW? Don't you get bored?? Another vacation?? Why do you go away so much?? How many times do you have to go to Las Vegas...the caribbean...Florida...California..???

Why did you buy such an expensive car?? Why do you spend so much money?? Why do you buy so many shoes?? Going out for dinner again???? How many clothes do you have???How much money do you have/make??

We don't have children either, but WE LOVE WDW. We never get bored and every trip is different...actually each trip is more fun than the last :teeth:

My question is this: When was the last time you heard..Oh how nice for you, have a great time?

People are so opiniated on how YOU should spend your time and money. Sometimes you are better off just not saying anything to anyone...

Hey, Melanie, this is me EXACTLY...well, I'm not OVER 40 yet...but I will be next year! :rotfl:

I went to Disney for my 40th birthday...people thought I was crazy...especially since I had just been 4 months earlier....did I care?.....NOPE! I had a wonderful time, in a place I love, what do I care what someone sitting at home thinks? :teeth:

I love Vegas too and people say the same things when I go there......again! I have a friend that goes to Vegas 3 or 4, sometimes 5 times a year...she always has a great time, more power to her!

If people don't get it, they don't get it. I don't waste my time explaining myself. Heck, I don't understand why people love to go CAMPING and I know they could explain it to me 100 times over and I still wouldn't get it and I figure it's the same with me and some people for Disney and Vegas, so I don't let it get to me. To each his own. Live and let live and all that.

Your friend clearly does not appreciate and understand that WDW is more than a kiddie ride amusement park. Many people has this misconception. Don't feel hurt, think of it as if you read a good book and that she couldn't read.

Vacation again?? We always get that! We have one summer vacation and some years we do a long weekend over the winter! Even if we went once a month why do people care? I agree keep it to yourself!
