I know, the last day blues. We really did a lot but of course not everything. The shirts really made us stick out. I still wear mine when I'm feeling homesick.

Patrons of many local shops and eateries may or may not have been left to wonder who Biscuit was and what his grand adventure was all about. :rolleyes1

I interrupt this trip report to bring you a Super Bowl update from New Orleans.

The Saints were finally in the Super Bowl and the excitement in Louisiana has been at an all time high. Can you just imagine what it's been like in New Orleans. I don't think much work has gotten done the in last 2 weeks.

Luckily for me I had a valid reason to be in New Orleans on Super Bowl Sunday. My daughter Michelle got us tickets to see "Mama Mia" on that very same day. And of course the theater is right on the outskirts of the French Quarter.

I started my day with a very early 7:30 a.m. Mass. My plan would have been to leave as soon as I got back but my teenage daughter had other thoughts. She slept in until 9:30, ate breakfast and then took her own sweet time getting ready. I wanted to be there early so we could walk around and feel the electricity. Michelle and her boyfriend spend at least one day a month down there just hanging out so we had decided she would drive because she actually knows her way around New Orleans better than me. I occupied myself by doing lots of laundry and watching the ESPN pre-game. Finally at 11:15 she was ready to go. We had a little over an hour drive to get there unless traffic was bad. The play started at 2. When we got in her car it said she had 90 miles until she ran out of gas. Of course I wanted to stop and get gas but she was sure we would make it. When we got to LaPlace I again suggested we stop, especially before we got on the very long Ponchatrain Bridge. I also needed a restroom stop. The traffic going down was thick but it did move. Lots of folks headed to the Big Easy! On the bridge we were passed by this interesting car.

Speed Racer!

Once we got close to downtown the traffic came to a crawl and the gas thingy was saying we only had 12 miles left. We whipped out the Tom Tom and started looking for a gas station. We got off the interstate at St Charles, ran into a parade drove around until we finally found an Exxon right next to Lee's Circle. By this time we both needed the restroom and I was in physical pain! While Michelle pumped I ran to find the restroom. Guess what? It was locked! Seem the policy is to not let anyone use them during carnival time. I begged and pleaded and explained I just couldn't go any further, but to not avail. Two cops were in there too. I explained my situation and pleaded with them, but there was nothing they could do they said. One suggested I go to a bar an order a drink and they would let me use the bathroom. But I couldn't go that far. After moaning and complaining I walked outside and used the "Pot of Gold" set up right across the street. With the tank full and our bladders empty we pulled out Tom and once again headed in the direction of the theater. After many turns (lots of one way streets) in hopes of avoided the parade we started to inch our way towards the Quarter. By now it was 1 and we weren't getting any closer. At the corner of two streets we saw a pay parking lot. Right then we decided just park and walk the rest of the way. We parked, paid and started walking really fast. Once we hit Canal St we started felling a little better and stopped for a hot dog from a corner street vendor. I can't tell you how long we walked but it was a lot. Once we got to where we thought the theater was we hit a really big fence. They are making a really nice park area around the theater and it is all fenced off. By now it was about 20 till and we had to walk all the way around the park to the back, at this point we were jogging. Finally we made it to the theater, entered had another bathroom break and went to find our seats in the nose bleed section, buy hey we made it! Right as we were walking to our seats the the dings to be seated went off. After all that rushing the play didn't even start until 2:20.

We saw this on our walk.

Of course I loved it! The musical is so much better than the movie. They explain a little better in the play. As soon as it ended we headed out. After another bathroom break we went downstairs to the good seats and watched them perform "Waterloo".

We got a guy to take this.

Okay so now it's 4:30 and what should we do. If we hurry we'll make it home possibly in time for kick off, but we in New Orleans, right by the French Quarter. So of course we have to walk down to Bourbon. We were on a mission to find some black and gold mardi gras beads to wear in Disney. We took off for Bourbon. Along the way we soaked in the excitement and check out the different shops. We went to the bar Michelle and her boyfriend like to hang out in and it was packed!

While there we watched the sportcasters give their predictions. Can you believe on one guy picked the Saints!

Bartender.

Back on the street. The people throwing beads to the crowd.

We're on Bourbon Street!

Of course we ran into friends.

More to come.

Did you see? We did find some black and gold beads!

Michelle by the sign for Bourbon Street.

Interesting folks!

New meaning to Helmet Hair!

Okay so I had to stop for a drink. They were playing "Party in the MIA"!

We got a cop to take this one.

By now we were making our way back to our parking lot. We had stopped in one place to see Queen Latifa sing and another place to see Carrie Underwood. As we made our way down the street the crowds were dispersing to watch the game. At the end of the street a street sweeper was waiting to do a little clean up while everyone was occupied watching the game.

We saw this on our way out.

We did see kick off through a window as we were walking out of the Quarter. We made it back to the car during the Colts first possession and listen to the game on the way home. The traffic was almost non existent on our way home. On pins and needles we listen and made it home in time for half time.

Some may ask why didn't we stay to watch and celebrate? Did you see the live feed? I would never have made it home and been able to get up for work this morning. But I did enjoy soaking it in for a while.

WHO DAT!

My dad and I spent the last minute of the game on the phone, I am in NY, he is in FL but we are from LA and when it was over and we had won, I swear we were hollering Who DAT so loud we could here each other across country!!:cheer2::yay:

We had a party in our neighborhood. Once Porter made the game ending interception, we all ran outside jumping up and down screaming. Fireworks were going off, people were setting off their car alarms. My neighbor is a BR police officer. He used to be NOPD, but had to move up here after Katrina. He had his lights on and siren going off (along with 2 other cop neighbors I have). I swear, you would have thought we were on Bourbon St.:cool1:

Wow what an experience, obviously we don't quite "get" the Super Bowl stuff here but it sounds fantastic fun and I'm so pleased your team won :thumbsup2

Oh BTW I always thought you lived in Los Angeles as it said LA :rotfl:

People were outside screaming and fireworks were going off here too! My son is student teaching right now at Port Allen High where Porter went to High School and still lives. It's a real big deal to the school.

Thanks Jo! We're all beside ourselves with joy! I just don't know how it could get any better. The Saints won the Super Bowl and I leave for Disney in 3 sleeps!

I'm southern born and bred. My dad spoke cajun french until he went to school and had to lean english.

I wish I could make it to the parade tonight, but I don't get off until 5 and I can't ask off from work. We have an office in Metairie, LA and they're all going. I've asked them to get me some throws. We'll watch the parade on TV.

Congrats on the Saints big win! My DH and I were rooting for them. We even bought Saints cups and plates at Party City!

I was born in Nawlins or New Orleans for those not from LA, my dad is from Lake Charles and my mom is from Sulphur... I am still trying to figure out how I landed in NY :)....
Oh yeah work and a love for eating and having a roof over my head :( And of course trips to DISNEY
