I'm done with FL...can I come to NC with you please?

I thought for a long time that I wanted to go to NC, but after this cold snap, FORGET IT. I can't take it. Give me sun and warmth anyday.

I don't know where you are moving to in NC, but we lived in Winston-Salem for 3 years and we sure as heck did not have 4 seasons! Our summers started in March and ended in December, then we had winter for about 2 months and then summer again!

I don't recall seeing leaves change or flowers blooming like what we have here in PA. And our winter's were not snowy, they were icey. And once that ice hits, the whole city shuts down!

Don't get me wrong, we loved NC, but don't get your hopes up that you will be escaping the heat. It is just as hot and humid in NC in July as it is in FL in July.

NO kidding. We have family just 45 minutes from Charlotte and we spend a lot of time in Charlotte. It is just as hot as down here in my area of Florida. And I don't want to deal with ice in the winter.

:rotfl:Where in Winston did you live? Maybe we were in some weird global warming phase when you were here - the leaves change and the flowers bloom predictably and we have four seasons every year in Piedmont NC.

And summer does not last until December!!:rotfl: Maybe you are used to any warm weather being called "summer", but here in NC that less warm period between Labor Day and Thanksgiving is called "fall" and that slightly warmer period between Saint Patrick's Day and Memorial Day is called "spring." Two of the most beautiful reasons to live in NC, by the way!!

Gotta agree.

Although I do hear it is icier in NC and in Atlanta than it is where I am. :)

I'd like to spend about 4 or 5 months in FL and the rest right here in TN!

Hey, I think you really need to get into the culture of your new home. I'll hang a giant WELCOME TO NC! sign up for you and hand you a couple of rakes for the amazing amount of autumn leaves that are all over my yard. Raking will certainly get in the spirit of living here. Here's a hint of how many leaves fall in our area: they limit the garbage pickup to 30 giant bags of leaves per week. I could easily fill 60 per week. Hope you like oak trees! And welcome home!

We lived over near Wake Forst University, right off of S. Stratford Rd. I worked at Midtown Cafe & Dessertery and also for USAirways in Reservations.
All I remember is that the 4 seasons down there were no where near what I am used to here in PA. Our spring here is actually temps below 50. Spring down there was in the 70's! And winter up here is anything below 40. Winter in NC was like the 50's! So yea, might he a interpretation thing! Summer to me is temps from 60-100 and winter is anything below 40!

Welcome to NC!!!

We live in the Charlotte area and we sure as heck have 4 seasons! We saw the leaves change in fall and we saw the flowers bloom in spring. Then round about the 1st week in Dec, the leaves fell and winter was ushered in.

I grew up in FL, and I still love it, but I love NC as well! It is a truly beautiful state with LOTS of things to do and places to see. We get all four seasons without the brutal summers and brutal winters. I'd go back to FL someday but you couldn't pay me enough to go much farther north. All that freezing cold and snow is for the birds! Not to mention the much higher cost of living. That's why everyone in our neighborhood is from NY, NJ, PA, CT, etc etc etc. They can get so much bang for their buck here, without the nasty winters. :thumbsup2

Where in NC are you going?

Interesting (and some rather surprising) replies. I was born and raised in NC and have lived all over the state with the exception of the coast. Will be "going home" to the Pinehurst-Southern Pines area. :goodvibes Counting the hours.

ANGELHALO: I worked in Chlt. at Presbyterian Hospital as well as the Asbury Care Center on Shamrock. Lived off Carmel Road on south side. Loved it but DH got an offer he couldn't refuse in FL. It's been a fabulous ride but a new chapter is beginning. :thumbsup2

Um, I hate to break this to you, but temps below 50 is called "winter.":rotfl:

Spring in NC is a warm season with highs in the 60s and 70s, pleasant springtime breezes, a few rain showers (April showers bring May flowers, remember?) and blooming flowers everywhere - especially dogwoods and azaleas.

Summer has highs of 80s and 90s with occasional 100s for a few days. We have awful humidity but I would say it is not quite as brutal as the hottest part of Walt Disney World in August. We just don't quite get to that shirt-drenching phase as quickly as Floridians do.

Fall has temps dropping back into the cooler temps at the beginning - from
90s to 80s and then into the 70s for most of the time. As fall gets closer to ending we get temps in the 60s and 50s, and right now, just before the offical start of winter, we have temps in the 40s and 30s. We all have boatloads of leaves to rake - and they are beautiful while they are on the trees!!

Winter is usually mild - we had a lot of snow last year, which is unusual. We have bad ice storms because we are so frequently on the line between rain and fullblown snowstorms.

All of this changes if you are either pretty far east or pretty far west - it's mostly warmer at the beach and mostly colder in the mountains.

Good Lord, I sound like a meteorologist...:rotfl:

Hey cool! I used to live at the corner of Carmel and 51.

4 seasons are overrated.

We went from summer in August...to a light summer in September then some fall days then some winter steps in...and now we have winter and it is NOT winter. 4 seasons my eye!

My cracked and bleeding knuckles would move back to Florida in a heart beat!

I'm going to be crying uncle on December 26 when I realize that we still have three months of winter left.:sad1:

From the beautiful coast of NC, welcome!! I am a native Wilmingtonian and can't imagine living anywhere else. Some years it seems the seasons are more pronouced than others. Like this year, last few weeks it has been 70-80degrees and this week the high today was 42 and the low is around 23 tonight. It is a mixed bag, but mostly is never this cold for long. Once in a blue moon we even get a little snow, but usually only an inch or two and it's gone the next day. The summers can be really hot some days, but for the most part 80's to low 90's. I guess if you want to escape Florida, the beach is not very much of an interest for you, but I love it and always have a place to cool off in the summer heat.

FOREVER is a really long time, but good luck with your move. We love living here in Florida and seeing the beach every day. I know it isn;t for everyone though. I also don't think I'd care for it as much if we were inland.

THIS! I don't want to go farther north than Georgia for the rest of my life!

I do NOT miss Virginia weather one bit!!!! I only miss my grandma and old job.
I don't have to shovel sunshine!!lol

I would love 4 season. summer mid 80's, fall 70 degees, winter 60 degrees, and spring, well shoot lets just have a mix of upper 70's and lower 80's.

I have spent almost every spring break and at least 1 week every summer just below the NC line. I was just as hot there as I am at home here in Florida. It may cool off quicker, and maybe you don't get as much heat. I guess I just time my visits perfectly to get the hottest part. lol

It is about 30 degrees here now and I am dying. I hate the cold, I can't move. AS much as I LOVE NC, no way I can take the cold. I will stay in Florida, I think I actually do love it here.
