So far we are safe; just please bless us all in Hawai'i.

I have been watching the storms for dayssssss....I switch between noaa and the dis all the time. Stay dry and hello from Maui.

Hope you will be ok.... :wizard: :wizard: that the storm move away from you....

That is interesting...I never realized that the Pacific Coast had their own separate alphabet of storms...
Come to think of it I never even hear about the west coast storms.....
How would you evacuate ..just move to higher ground on the island?

I am not sure what Lil_Tink will do on Lanai, but most people at least move away from the coast onto higher ground. We were talking about this at work last Friday that most people around here would either stay in their home or maybe go to a public schools or community centers. We don't really have large enclosed sports facilities or shopping centers...and most hotels are built well, but they are on the ocean. Plus, we can't drive over to the next state  . I think in the past, myself included, some people didn't take the storms as seriously as we do now since Katrina...you sort of grow up knowing a storm will come at some point, you live on an island. I hope that this hurricane stays on its path to go up north and the two behind fizzle out....over the weekend Kenneth was a cat. 4....yikes.

Luckily, they are projecting this storm to take a turn as it hits cooler water and move to the northwest of the island chain. They are still keeping a close watch on it as a precaution, as well as Hurricane Kenneth, which is right behind Jova.

According to our local news, we have a strong National Guard presence in Hawaii. If needed, help could be dispensed quickly in a disaster situation. They are also not adverse to calling up the other branches of the military to aid if needed. We are very vunerable as a chain of islands so cut off from the rest of the world, but there is a lot of Aloha here. All the Hawaiian islands have mountains, so yes, there's ground to run up hill.

The meteorologists claim that our greatest threat to life would be a locally generated tsunami. It would only take minutes to hit, as opposed to a couple of hours if the wave is generated from an earthquake someplace else. One of our famous local weathermen even suggested if you ever wake up and feel the ground shaking in Hawaii, don't wait for directions, just grab the pets and the kids and run up hill.

Thanks for the info....I hope you never have to evacuate to higher ground!!

Keeping good thoughts for your islands to stay safe from all storms and tsunami!!!
