Water logged but OK

Well we survived Hurricane Jeanne. This time the house didn't do as well. The roof was totaled after the first hurricane so this time I got lots of water in the house. I had a lake in the family room and bedrooms. Water seeped through drywall in the ceilings in all the rooms.

We just got the power back and thankfully it was only off for about 18 hours. Still no phones but cable is working.

Hopefully this is the last of the hurricanes for this season.

I am glad to hear that you have your power back on. So sorry to hear about all the damage to your home. Hope that all turns out well for you. May God bless you and yours.

So sorry to hear about your home safetymom...we have a blue tarp from FEMA on our roof from IVAN right now.....do you think this season will ever end?
Hope things get better for you, best of luck to you.:earsgirl:

Rozzie, sorry to hear about your house. I have been trying to get through to FEMA since Hurricane Charley. Guess I have to keep trying.

I am so sorry for what you poor Floridians have gone through this year. I admire your strength. Here in Ohio we get the spring tornadoes and I totally freak every time I hear the sirens. You are in my prayers.

Safetymom, I am so sorry to hear about the damage to your house. In all of your posts, you have never mentioned the loss you have suffered (at least that I have seen), but have focused on informing those of us arriving from out of town. Thank you for looking out for us. I wish you the best as you begin the repair process.

Thank you. I moved here from PA in Dec. 03 to escape the winter weather. This has been one crazy history making hurricane season. Although it would be nice if they all decided to skip Central FL. for awhile.

safetymom glad you are home safe. Sorry that your house didn't do as well. I can't agree more, I am tired of these storms. I am starting to feel so mad... I can see it in some of my post. I get upset easy when people start complaining about a disrupted vacation. Here you come home to a lake in your living room & others are unhappy because it rained on their trip..... I need to start looking on the bright side of things, I might be able to if I can keep the darn boards off my windows for more than 3 days!! I think the people in our state have had enough.... there isn't a county that hasn't been hit or touched by a hurricane this year. First storm by me Charley; there wasn't much fear at first, it wasn't suppose to hit me...boom direct hit! Second storm Francis; fear but knew I wasn't getting a direct hit, third storm Ivan; sheer panic at one point it was on the path of Charley & then it turned and missed me (I feel so sorry for the panhandle people). Now Jeanne... there was no fear left in me... it is all anger! I am mad.... not that I can do anything about it.... but anger has taken over fear & I don't know if that is a good thing. I want my sunny Fl back:sunny: I promise to never complain that my well ran dry & I had to fork out over $1000 to dig it deeper due to no rain in early June ..... now I wish I had a raft :boat: :boat: :umbrella: :fish:

Hang in there!!!

I was sorry to hear about your house, but at least everyone is OK.

My dad lives in a moter home in Sebring and he is sick of driving north every few weeks, but the home is not damanged since it goes with him!

My brother owns a homebuilding business in Illinois, and one of his workers' father owns a home in Sebring Florida. The father paid for my brother and 5 of his guys to come to Sebring (they got there on Thursday) and fix the damage to his roof from the last few hurricanes. They completed the work on the roof on Saturday morning and then were going to come home today (Sunday), but the hurricane kept them there and in fact they are still there and won't be home until after they fix the roof...again. Luckily they were ok, they were stayng at the Inn on the Lake and I guess the building held up pretty good, but they said they were scared the whole night as the hurricane passed right over them.

Sorry about your house..it just never seems to end. Were you able to move your furniture and other important items to a dry area? As I told another Floridian, who is always trying to get us to move down there..the snow shoveling is looking better all the time.

DMRick, furniture is OK. This is still better than winter weather!!!! Hurricanes don't happen all the time, winter weather is there year after year. I don't miss worrying about how much snow, if it is going to snow at all.

Sorry to see that your all having to go through that. My family lost everything in two hurricanes in the 1960's in Louisiana and it was very devastating. When we fled from Ivan it certainly had an impact on us as we expected to have nothing left when we returned but we were spared last minute and Pensacola got it instead. My prayers are with you all and I do hope that everything works out for the best.

glad you made it back.. I am sorry to hear about the damge on the up side you have power!!!! we just made it back home over the bridge stayed at PORS for sat sunday night.. really wanted to get back sunday night but was told the bridges still needed to be checked.. so the roof that was leaking from frances and stiil as not been seen by an adjuster caved in totally so now my whole front of teh house is ruined.. on en up side I HAVE POWER!!! wierd huh hardly no damage before but no power for 8 days lots of damage this time but power.. chin up i think we are in teh clear now!!!! good luck with FEMA i spent a whole day on teh phone trying to get though last time never did???sigh..... oh well i am sure there are others who need them more than me.... on an up sid emade it to disney really early sat .. and was able to do MK EPCOT and ANIMAL kingdom with the boys (just there fav rides) it was a great day sat...

Our prayers are with you and yours for a full and speedy
renovation. Thanks for all your posts.

to everyone affected by these storms! Safetymom, Rozzie, Ruttie, A Mickeyfan - so sorry for all you have gone through. Please know, folks around the country have you all in our thoughts & prayers. My youngest sister is in Oviedo, so we've been on pins & needles for weeks worrying about her, feeling helpless up here in PA. The worst for them was Charley, but nothing near as bad as what you've experienced. They got 'lucky', relatively speaking, with the others. I pray too, that this is it for a long time!!!

hulabird, glad your brother & his team are O.K.

yecats, glad your home was spared! Must have been absolute horror after what your family went through before.

Here in PA, huge parts of the Northeast, as well as other parts of the state were declared disaster areas after Ivan's torrential rains & flooding - parts of my own county actually. A number of roads & bridges were washed away. We had 2 flood related fatalities. Luckily our home is located on a higher elevation, with no water nearby. If we flooded here, the rest of the area would need an ark! But I'm happy to be in PA! Safetymom, I LOVE the snow - I'm a winter person. What can I say? You'll think I'm crazy!

Again, prayers & pixie dust to all of you :grouphug:

Mickey's Sister , I can understand you liking snow. I know there are lots more like you. Everyone doesn't want to live in FL which is ok with me. :)

I moved here from Pittsburgh, PA. which was one of the areas hard hit by Ivan. I got reports from family and friends on the damage down there. We used to live high on a hill so we didn't have any problems until we came down off the hill.

I figure the house can always be repaired but we are OK and that is a good thing.

Safetymom, I lived in Pittsburgh for 5 years myself! My late husband was a Pittsburgh native. We lived in the Observatory Hill section. Much of my husband's family is there. You're right, Ivan hit Pittsburgh particularly hard. But I remember sections of Pittsburgh that ALWAYS flooded, like Point State Park. It's a lovely city, but after my husband died, it was too hard to stay there. I came back to my hometown.

Even without the snow, I do love visiting Florida though. We drive down, and there is just something incredible (my son says it's like Christmas Eve) about your first sight of the palm trees - even the air has that tropical scent. It helps that Disney is there too, LOL. But I won't be moving there. I can't bear the summers!

You're right, houses can be repaired. Your health & safety is the most important. I always try to see the glass as half full, rather than half empty myself! Best wishes for a quick recovery from these storms!!!
