Hurricane Irma?

I contemplated booking that if we couldn't find something close to SSR.

Did your husband buy a 12gal can meant for gas to be put in at Walmart? I don't see actual gasoline/fuel in a can on their website.

I am not sure where he saw a 12 gallon.. but I am seeing a lot of 5 gallon ones at Lowe's and I am sure Home Depot would have them too.

Can anyone who has stayed at Disney during a hurricane please advise if their resort lost power or if it stayed on through the storm?

I did not lose power during the two I went through at Disney. However, I did have about a three hour outage when lightning struck a power station near CR during an afternoon thunderstorm. No place is totally immune to outages.

Folks, talk to me about power outages. I've always stayed at Disney, but this time we will be at Hilton Lake Buena Vista (catty-corner from the buses at Disney Springs). Are they set up as well as Disney is for utilities?

Pull up the hotel in google maps streetview and take a look around. Do you see any powerlines? If not, the power is underground. Underground distribution lines are less likely to be damaged due to wind, fallen debris etc. A power loss could still occur if an above ground line feeding those distribution lines is damaged.

I just looked and tons of gas cans came up online. Didn't check store availability though. Empty cans, of course.

I see gas cans. I thought she found actual cans...like this...sealed with gas already inside. LOLupload_2017-9-7_12-55-45.jpeg

I don't feel comfortable taking an unsealed can ofgas in the trunk. I downloaded the Gas Buddy app to help locate fuel if needed.

If you are currently staying in a room and can't leave on your check-out day, is Disney charging the same amount per night? For example, Yacht club is $505 a night, if you're stuck do they discount the room?

Not necessarily. There have been a variety of reports from Hurricane Matthew last year; some people got discounted rates, some had to pay rack rate.

12 gallons is huge...and not sure if it's legal to fill such a large can with gasoline.

Also, do you really want to be transporting/storing almost 90lb of gas while traveling? :)

We cancelled today. We were scheduled for a quick FW weekend driving in Friday night and leaving Monday. We're from SC and thought about what a nightmare it would be driving home on Monday. I was holding out hope that the storm would turn, but my husband pointed out that we would literally be driving home in the hurricane on its track.

Those were our dates as well. I was worried that we should get there and enjoy Friday and half of Saturday then have to sit around Sunday and Monday and try and get a new flight out Tuesday. Not worth it for us. I am really concerned for everyone in it's path. :(

Flying soon flight suppose to leave in 40 minutes. 10 nights at wdw instead of 7 now. Haven't been this excited to go to wdw in a very long time. Not because of the storm because of the low park attendance days.

Do you think they will allow drivers to drive down on Friday? Or will they close the roads south? We are still trying to decide what to do..... watching and waiting patiently..

Wanted to post a follow up from the rescheduling of our plans from 9/6 - 9/12. While we wish we were at Disney World right now, Disney did decide to finally waive all fees for our move to 11/14 - 11/20. The tone from the CMs was to do everything they could to keep us from rescheduling when we called on 9/5 and changed to much more of the 'get the heck out here' feeling. They were much more accommodating, maybe because of the Disney posted advisory, airports MCO and Miami shutting down Friday and Saturday and Disney cruises being cancelled. For those of you who still go, we wish you the best and be safe, we just did not have the stomach to do battle with this on our 'vacation'. The last I read MCO is closing at 2pm EDT on Saturday and Miama is closing at 3:49pm EDT on Friday.

Having to reschedule. I have been on hold for 3 and a half hours. Trying to reschedule for 10/14-10/21. Wish me luck!!!

Sometimes discounted rate, sometimes not. Depends on many factors, as so many things do at Disney
Pixie Dust from CM at that moment
Availability of the promo you were booked in
Availability of a promo period
Management at the Resort
Sun, Moon and Stars in perfect alignment
Any combo of the above

Where did you see 2 PM closing for MCO??

Incorrect info. At this time, MCO has no shut down planned.

See here (though again, it's on a scroll, stupid place to put an important announcement)

See here, you can see I grabbed a time/date stamp too

This is not correct information - MCO has not announced any closing time or date and is monitoring the storm. visit https://www.orlandoairports.net/ for updates on the airport status.

For folks flying in the following weekend (like 8-10 days from now), what can be expected for food supplies, etc.? Will Disney parks/resorts have plenty of food? Or could there be issues with supply chain disruption? Obviously we're looking at a range here based on how hard Orlando gets hit.
I have the same question, and didn't see anything in the thread addressing this. I guess it's a little selfish to worry about AFTER the hurricane, but that's when my trip is. Any thoughts?

This is from the FOX station in Orlando...ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Orlando International Airport has posted a notice on its website that says OIA (airport code MCO) will cease commercial flights at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
