Hurricane Irma?

As far as groceries and gas go just to make everyone aware: we live on the west coast near Tampa and gas is very scarce and groceries almost non-existent. If you are still debating comming please don't. Residents need the resources and it doesn't make sense to come from elsewhere during a natural disaster. Would you go somewhere with massive wildfires? Or anywhere else if a hurricane was supposed to hit? We all know how disappointing it is to cancel vacation but don't put yourself of others in danger because its Disney.

If the massive wild fire was by wdw than yes. As long as the magical bus has gas and the buses heading to the parks I'm good.

Thanks for that! I'll take a look.

There is availability for the 9th on the DVC member site, not sure if there are cash rooms. We didn't book it because we didn't have enough points. We booked a cash night for $80 (with tax and fees) at the Radisson up the road.

Ah thanks should've wait for this! Just booked at All star movies for the 9th.

A few non food and drink things. For the adults going to be there- I would suggest portable phone chargers just in case power goes out (they are also very useful in the parks now as we use phones a lot more with MDE/parks app). We had a cheap small one for DLR this summer and it would fully charge a phone at least twice. If you are in a resort where your building will be separate from the lobby, I would suggest having some board or card games to keep the kids occupied. I would also suggest books (the real kind on paper in case the power goes out) for adults wherever you are. Last year as Matthew was getting close, we bought a couple of Disney games in the park stores along with some Disney drawing books. We were at YC and wound up using none of it as instead of being in the room DD was having a fabulous time in the lobby playing games with CMs and meeting characters, especially Thursday evening when there were less kids because more people were in their rooms. DH and I were going a little bored and stir crazy during that time, but she was not. She has enjoyed all our unneeded games and drawing books at home- and the drawing books were a hit in the plane ride home.

I agree with April. Stay HOME! Stay SAFE!! I'd rather take a financial loss than worry if I had enough water, food, power, gas. The traffic is horrendous. Disney will always be there. You can always go SOME OTHER TIME! I know how much time, energy and $$ it takes to plan a Disney trip. I'd take the chance in cancelling and the storm goes out to sea. Sure don't want to be stuck in Fla. Make good decisions people!!

I contemplated booking that if we couldn't find something close to SSR.

Did your husband buy a 12gal can meant for gas to be put in at Walmart? I don't see actual gasoline/fuel in a can on their website.

Update for those who are curious (probably no one lol).

Originally planned to fly out Saturday morning at 7am from Atlanta to MCO. Now, I've rescheduled to fly into MCO Tuesday morning (just praying that airport will be open and fully operational). Going to MNSSHP that night, and then keeping plans mostly the same. Just leaving MCO Sunday instead of Friday now. Hope everyone's plans work out some way or another. Look forward to seeing you all! Feels good to have a reasonable plan and get excited again!

If anything like previous hurricanes, a curfew will go into place when the storm hits. No cars, other than emergency personnel, will be allowed on the roads. I doubt you will be able to move on Sunday, as that will be during the height of the storm. Can't say for sure, but I wouldn't count on it.

Personally, I don't expect a curfew until about mid day on Sunday through at least mid day Monday, if the current timing and forecast holds. I don't recall any curfews during the periods with tropical storm force winds with our past hurricanes. Of course, curfews are based entirely on how dangerous it is to be outside.

To the poster asking if they will be able to move to WL, if there is a curfew in place, no one would be coming in to AKL, so I would guess you could shelter in that room until you were allowed to move to WL. If there is not a curfew in place, you should be able to make the move. If it were me, I would ask at the front desk when checking into AKL.

You are in the same boat as us. We were scheduled to arrive 9/10 and stay through 9/15. But we added on a night on Saturday 9/9 and are planning to drive down then to get in ahead of the storm. We booked a cash room offsite (around the corner from SSR where we are booked the rest of the trip) and hope we will be able to check in early Sunday morning.

We are watching things carefully and plan to cancel if needed.

Out of curiosity, how are you packing extra gas?

We are doing the exact same thing--flying down Sat AM and staying at Port Orleans French Quarter, we rented a car to drive to Poly--if we drive to Poly but the parks are closed, will we still be able to check in? That is my worry at this point if we go.

So when I called Disney they said the wait time would be about 15 minutes...no problem. A CM answered, I told her I needed to cancel, she said okay, took my info, said I'm not allowed to modify your flight so I have to transfer you, with zero indication of how long I'd be on hold for, here we are more than a half hour later, still on hold being tortured by the cheery Disney music...

Folks, talk to me about power outages. I've always stayed at Disney, but this time we will be at Hilton Lake Buena Vista (catty-corner from the buses at Disney Springs). Are they set up as well as Disney is for utilities?

There will be a storm crew at the Poly who will be able to check you in even if the parks are closed.

It was built (hotel and electrical system) around the same time frame as the Poly/Contemporary/MK so yes, it is set up as well as the rest of the property. RCID Energy Services provides electricity property wide.

Can anyone who has stayed at Disney during a hurricane please advise if their resort lost power or if it stayed on through the storm?

I just looked and tons of gas cans came up online. Didn't check store availability though. Empty cans, of course.

Is there a direct guest services number? When I called the ...1936 number I got a CM who couldn't see free dining availability and she transferred me to guest services where I waited 1 hour and 15 minutes and had to hang up. It took 45 minutes to get the first CM. Just seeing if there is a way to avoid the first hold waiting for someone who probably can't help me. Thanks for the info. I was wondering if guest services was more lienent on helping people keep free dining.
Not that I know of. Fortunately I haven't had to talk to them many times. I just ask for guest services through the main number.

If you are currently staying in a room and can't leave on your check-out day, is Disney charging the same amount per night? For example, Yacht club is $505 a night, if you're stuck do they discount the room?

We did not lose power. The problem is that a power loss to Disney would likely be the result of damage to more major powerlines which will take longer to repair. I assume Disney have contingencies and such but it's something to be aware of. I don't think outages at Disney are common but prepare for it anyway.

THANK YOU!

At pop front desk right now and there is a contingent of DCL crew checking in. I guess that might be partly where the room availability has gone...
