I will start this out by saying this may be the wrong forum for this, so mods feel free to move.

Now, I've seen people asking about going to Orlando during Hurricane Irma, and that has got to be some of the silliest questions I've ever seen. Do not let Mickey Mouse cost you your life.

This is Hurricane Irma conditions that I'm experiencing now. This is with the eye-wall about 250-300 miles away. Now multiply this by 30-50x and that is what you will get when Irma runs through Florida, along with up to 15ft of surge. Why anyone would even think not to postpone their vacation is beyond me.

Locals and people fleeing south FL and the coasts need the supplies in Orlando. The tourist who are purposefully coming to Orlando in this mess - omfg - I don't get it. I like Disney too. But I don't understand willfully disregarding the risk of injury and using our limited local supplies because you don't want to delay your vacation til Tuesday. This isn't Matthew. This is going to be bad.

People thought Matthew would be bad. Then it wasn't. Hope springs eternal.

Like in my cousins in FL who think Irma will be like Matthew and aren't evacuating.

This is a much larger, more powerful storm than Matthew ever was. We are likely to get a number of tornados in Orlando because of the angle the hurricane is likely to hit us at. While I'd love to be flippant about Irma, I live in the path of this thing.

I hope your cousins are ok. I have friends that are stuck in Tampa cause by the time this thug shifted they weren't able to make accommodations elsewhere.

I have friends in the Miami area, in Tampa, in New Port Richey, in Pensecola, in Jacksonsville and in family in south Georgia about a hour from Savannah. All hunkered down and riding it out. Even our schools here in north Georgia and UGA have already shut down for Monday. I still have my fingers crossed she will turn or at least slow down.

I get that this is bigger but Matthew was indeed supposed to be big. And they live not a mile from the water in Daytona. And stayed. And are staying again *because they think it'll do the same thing as matthew*.

And in doing so my cousins lost the right to give us trouble about earthquakes or if mt rainier ever goes.

Hurricane Charley (a Catagory 4 storm) passed directly over Disney World and much of Orlando in 2004. Gusts in parts of Orlando were up to 105mph. Other than parks being closed I don't believe there was any major damage or issues. Disney World area is forecast for gusts up to 75mph from Irma. However, hurricanes are unpredictable. Stay Safe!

The last thing you want from any hurricane, is for it to slow down. See Harvey or Joaquin in 2015. Unfortunately Irma has indeed slowed from 16 to 6mph.

There was plenty of damage to Orlando. If you're referring to the parks, than no, there was no major damage.

Matthew was supposed to be bigger. No one was talking about Matthew hitting us as a category 5.:(

I hope your family stays safe. Low lying coastal cities during a hurricane...argh. St. Augustine flooded badly during Matthew. The storm surge will be bad on the coasts (although the East is a better gamble than the West at this point).

I doubt you're going to see a 15ft surge at Disney, much less Orlando.

I'm currently sitting in a studio at BWVs. Been at WDW since last weekend. Changed flight home from a Monday to Wed.
The resorts are full of evacuees, and their pets! Very strange hearing yapping dogs in the hallways!!
I was here for Charley. Everything was fine at WDW. We were at the CR, old North Wing. There were a few trees down. Nothing major. However...Orlando proper was a mess!! A ton of damage there.
So far so good.
