Hurricane Frances Poll

Okay - my DH and I were contemplating a last minute long weekend trip. Now, Frances is starting to make me change my mind...plus I'm having trouble getting a pet sitter. If by some miracle I get a pet sitter I'm wondering if we should even bother.

For those of you scheduled to go or contemplating going - what are you going to do? Explain.

We live in West Palm Beach and have already made all our food/supply/plywood purchases. I'm not going to wait til the last minute for that BUT I am waiting for the last minute to decide if I'm going to WDW.

Watch the storm VERY VERY closely and keep in mind what Charley did. I don't mind dealing w/rain or winds as long as I am NOT driving in them. So along with when/if/where Frances hits be very cautious to driving conditions.

I have been planning this honeymoon since Feb and Frances is not going to get in the way. If the forecasts stay as they are, we will probably be delayed one day in, but we can always hope it turns more north or west.

Being from Louisiana, I have watched these things my whole life. I know how unpredictable they can be.

We arrive Friday evening, plan on going. One of our friends who is already at CBR ask if we were ready for the hurricane party at his room (He lives on the beach here in MA so he's used to storm parties). We'll probably stop and stock up at the store on the trip from the airport just in case. Don't want to be without some cocktails and munchies during the storm.

I'm holding out, but mostly because I'm waiting for Continental Airlines to offer no-penalty re-booking as currently available to those travelling to the Virgin Islands.

Even if it's not going to be a direct hit, the weather will probably be awful. So my mindset is that at this point I would rather not go.

Another factor is that I don't want to get stuck in Orlando and not be able to get back in time for school and work on Tuesday.

I'm not losing sight of the fact that all this trip-planning stuff pales in comparison to our Florida resident friends facing this storm.

We're going. We live in West Palm, and my dh is in Orlando for business all week. I just hired someone to come on Thursday and put my hurricane shutters up, and we'll be heading up there that night.

We are going no matter what. We've had this quick trip planned for a while and it's the last chance until Christmas that my son's grandparents will get to spend some time with him. We live right next door to you in High Point and plan on battening down the hatches here at home before we go just in case Frances turns this way. I've also checked some alternative flights home just in case MCO takes another direct hit and can't reopen for a while.

As someone else posted on this board, Disney was built to withstand hurricanes and there probably isn't a safer place to be in the state of Florida. Now, if Frances becomes a category 5 before it hits land and will make a direct hit on the mid-coast of Florida, I might rethink cancelling the trip or coming home early ahead of the storm. Until that happens, however, we are going with our mouse ears on!

The only thing that will stop my wife and I from going for our anniversary trip is if our flights are cancelled.
