Here's what I know about different areas around South Louisiana and Mississippi. If you have information about an area, would you check in and maybe place your area name in bold?

First. I'm in Columbus, MS (East Central MS) and we are unable to dial out to most phone numbers. We are 3.5 hours north of the Biloxi area. If you are waiting for a phone call from anyone south of me, it is likely that they can't dial out.

My aunt lives in Norwood, LA...about an hour north of Baton Rouge. Power is still out there. Her camp house in Golden Meadow is completely destroyed.

A really good friend's family lives on the northeast side of Lake Ponchartrain in LaCombe. As of yesterday afternoon, there was no power and no phones...and they still had three feet of water in the house. They did evacuate and will attempt to return to start the cleanup next week. Her other family that lives in Mandeville didn't have much damage.

My stepdaughter's natural mother lives in Gonzales, LA. They suffered only downed trees and had the power out as of yesterday.

There are a lot of smaller areas that we aren't seeing on the television. Because communications are strained, maybe we can share what we know here in an effort to find out what's going on.

I can update from Greenville, MS. We also can't call out to almost anywhere. It seems easy to call in town but out of town is almost impossible. I've been trying to reach Immigration about our adoption all day and can't get out. We never lost power and only had tree damage. We still have family in Biloxi that we haven't heard from.

Does anyone have any info on how people in Pasagoula made out? We have friends that live there and we have not been able to get a hold of them.
Any input would be appreciated!

My friends mom evacuated to her mom's house in Natchez, and they got rain and some wind, but no damage or flooding.

My brother lives in Pass Christian....he drove to Alabama to give us a call. He couldn't find gas anywhere and there is hardly any food. He was able to find a couple of cans of tuna. His house didn't receive much damage but his barn is gone. He has three families living with him now because their houses are completely gone.

NOLA the area immediately surrounding St. Charles and Louisiana is DRY. NO FLOODING, minimal wind damage, although some of the large old oaks are down in the street on St. Charles. I just got that from a FIRST HAND REPORT from someone who stayed put in their home there.

Baton Rouge and Prairieville are still trying to recover. There are still many homes with no power or phones. Gas is scarce and several grocery stores still need serious restocking. But thankfully there was very little damage compared to the other cities. We are doing our best to organize supplies for the those who are sheltered here.

Great thread. Thank you. I have a friend in Mandeville, and I just tried calling, on the very off chance I could get through, but of course, I couldn't. I hope that she and her DH and their home survived in relatively good condition. They have a DD, but she's a college graduate and not sure she's still living with them.

Her mom lives in Kenner, as does her brother, who has a dental practice...anyone know how Kenner fared? Many years ago, a plane crashed on their street, and they've been through hurricanes before. I don't know how they deal with it. Her sister lives in Baton Rouge.
