Here's what I know about different areas around South Louisiana and Mississippi. If you have information about an area, would you check in and maybe place your area name in bold?
First. I'm in Columbus, MS (East Central MS) and we are unable to dial out to most phone numbers. We are 3.5 hours north of the Biloxi area. If you are waiting for a phone call from anyone south of me, it is likely that they can't dial out.
My aunt lives in Norwood, LA...about an hour north of Baton Rouge. Power is still out there. Her camp house in Golden Meadow is completely destroyed.
A really good friend's family lives on the northeast side of Lake Ponchartrain in LaCombe. As of yesterday afternoon, there was no power and no phones...and they still had three feet of water in the house. They did evacuate and will attempt to return to start the cleanup next week. Her other family that lives in Mandeville didn't have much damage.
My stepdaughter's natural mother lives in Gonzales, LA. They suffered only downed trees and had the power out as of yesterday.
There are a lot of smaller areas that we aren't seeing on the television. Because communications are strained, maybe we can share what we know here in an effort to find out what's going on.
