Please provide me your best-guess rating for these attractions FOR PEOPLE WHO GET MOTION SICK (not really your own rock-solid stomach, but how you think somebody who gets motion sickness might respond. I know it is hard to go on a guess instead of your own experience, I am asking a lot, sorry :()

I am asking for a special needs relative who can think clearly for himself, but does need a little help from the family making decisions. He wants to do everything and we are not sure if he will be able to.

1 being no motion sickness, 5 being severe

Transformers
Spiderman
Gringotts
Flight of Journey
Mummy
Pteranadon Flyers
Kong

For the stage shows, will Despicable Me, Simpsons, Shrek or any of the others cause potential motion sickness?

What does he get motion sickness from?

If from screens then gringotts, forbidden journey, Spider-Man, transformers all have screens.

Despicable me, shrek, and simpoakns as well. For me those are ok because o can close my eyes and lose the feelings.

PF is the worst ride in the park for me. And you have to be within a certain eight range so unless he's kid sized or you have a kid sized person with you no one is riding that anyway. I was so glad when my tall kid outgrew that.

Kong also has screens.

Mummy is a coaster and is awesome.

Hi my daughter and I can get motion sickness and dizziness on rides. We go to Universal quite often and find most of the rides are okay. However, I will give you my opinion based on my experience.

1. Transformers and Spiderman are almost identical. I am great with these except there is one small part like maybe 15 seconds that is driving down a busy street. It doesn't make me stomach sick but can make me a little dizzy. Otherwise I am good. There is flying sequences with the simulator but we are good with it. 2
2. Gringotts is absolutely fine for us. It is a coaster that pivots on the tracks a bit but it's pretty smooth.1
3. Mummy we are fine, It is an indoor coaster so it can be a little fast and quick turns. 1
4. Kong is really mild to us so no problems 1
5. The flyers are fine 1
6. Forbidden Journey is a no go for me and my daughter. It makes us motion sickness and dizzy. If you are claustrophobic it could be a rough. 5
7. Simpsons is a simulator ride and it gets me and my daughter. 5
8. Despicable me is a simulator ride but we have no problems. 1
9. Shrek is fine 1
10. Men in Black is cool however, the car can spin really fast if you get targeted by another car. 3
11. Jimmy Fallon is really cool. There is driving fast down a street and some flying but for some reason it does not bother us.1

I hope this helps a little! Enjoy your trip

I can get motion sick- in a car I need to be in the he front seat.

Forbidden Journey- there's one part near the end I get a little dizzy. I just close my eyes and it passes in 5 seconds. To me this ride is worth my dizziness.

Simpsons and Minions- I cannot ride these. They would be a 10 on your 1-5 scale.

For frame of reference, I get motion sick in the back of a bus, on boats in choppy water, and any ride that spins. I can do most roller coasters with no issue, although Expedition Everest at AK gets me a little when it goes backwards.

Of your list, Simpsons is the only one that gives me any type of mild motion sickness. I do close my eyes at certain points on that ride. It's the motion of the car combined with the view on the screen that does it for me.

The rest of the rides you list are fine for me, including Mummy which briefly goes backwards.

The only other one that I'm not a fan of because of motion sickness is Men in Black - it spins at certain parts and makes me dizzy.

For me, it depends on the day and if I have had plenty of rest.

Without much rest, or really hot days, I get queasy on most that you mention. With plenty of rest, and not so hot days, I don't have much problem with most of them.

I love the Simpsons, but it is usually really hot inside the building, which is the reason I get sick on it (motion + heat = want to puke). If I get into the pre-ride area and it is too hot, I just excuse myself.
Forbidden Journey used to be bad, but they tweaked it earlier this year, and I had no issue when I rode it back in May.
The Cat in The Hat really spins the car around, but it is usually ice cold in there (which makes it a great little hang for a few minutes on hot days), so I don't get ill on it.

I don't do spinning rides unless I have on a Scop patch - even then, I don't like spinning enough to bother most of the time.

MIB has some spinning and I hate that part of the ride. The rest of the ride is so much fun, I'll deal with the spinning part.

Screen based rides also get to me. I haven't ridden any of these without wearing the patch, but I think these would probably make me sick without it (from most likely to least likely)
  • Simpsons
  • FJ
  • Spiderman
  • Transformers
  • Minions
I don't think Gringotts or Kong would make me sick without a patch on.

My order of how bad the rides are for motion sickness:

1. Simpsons
2. Simpsons
3. Simpsons
4. Simpsons
5. Simpsons
6. Transformers

I usually do not get motion sickness but Simpsons made almost everyone in my party sit down and recoup afterwards. Transformers also got me some because of how fast the motion was on the screen.

Sometimes a long car ride can make him sick. He cannot watch video games like Call of Duty, Simpsons, Star Wars or anything that moves around a lot. Even though he is sitting still, the moving can be too much for him if it involves spinning. It is the sensory part that is too much. He has no issues in airplanes or if he sits close to the front of a bus, but if he is further back it can get to him. He can do Star Tours in Disney once, but if he does it again with an hour or two, he will get sick. He loves Mission Space in Disney, but he gets sick every time.

Thanks for the comment about the Flyers. I did not realize it was a child ride.

Edit: his brother just mentioned to me that minimal spinning is okay, but a lot of it is not so good.

Is the issue with the simpsons ride the movement in the theater or the visual part?

Is it when those are set to first person? Ds recently showed me the difference between first person and third person for both a Top Gear driving game and a Star Wars with first person shooting, and the difference is huge. I get dizzy watching people do first person "shooter" or driving games but watching from a further back point of view is fine.

Fwiw with me if I get woozy on Simpsons I close my eyes or look up out of the vehicle to see the other ride vehicles. I do the same thing on Soarin. Looking around at others tells my brain that I'm not actually going around the world or on a rickety breaking roller coaster in krustyland, and I feel better.

Sometimes you just can't tell what will make you feel motion sick and what won't. And of course everybody is different in how they react, I can only tell you my personal experience. I get sick riding in the back of a car, those video games mentioned also make me dizzy, checking my phone while riding in a car instantly makes me feel nauseated. So I get sick pretty easy. But some of the rides that set most people off didn't bother me at all. I'm fine on Simpsons, Despicable Me, Gringotts, Transforms. On Spider-Man I did feel a little funky and it's a one time each trip ride for me. Forbidden Journey is 10 on the hurl o meter!I had to shut my eyes pretty much from the very start and just prayed it would be over fast! My son who is iron clad on rides was even sick on this and didn't want to do it again. The Mummy was rough for me too.
Good luck and I hope your son can enjoy what he is able to go on.

Kind of depends on what can cause the sickness. If screens are apt to there is a bit of that, if it's jsut motions then most of the dark rides aren't bad.
My fiance and son get mostion sickness easily adn tehy were fine on most of the stuff. Both took Dramamine and finace had Sea Bands as well. They were fine on all of the dark rides, though MiB does have a section where it can spin a lot and said it got to them a littel but stopped before it was too much.
The onyl ride that caused them issues was Simpsons. MAde both of them nauseous. We did not do Minion Mayhem but I have been on it before and it is similar style.
Forbidden Journey is a fun ride but I have known many that it can cause motion sickness for. They were ok on it but needed to take a small break from rides right after for a bit. I have gotten a little nauseous when riding it multiple times in a row.

The screens are the worst for me. I purposely don't eat, or eat a banana before going on Simpsons. Transformers and minions get me a little queezy by the end no matter what

Is the issue with the simpsons ride the movement in the theater or the visual part?

For me, it is the heat...as I mentioned above, they usually keep that building too hot. When the building is cool, I don't have much issue with the ride.

I get some pretty hard core motion sickness. Worse in the heat. When I visited US/IOA last year I only got sick on the Simpson's motion ride (had to close my eyes for the duration of the ride, managed to hold in the throw up until getting off the ride) and Transformers and the only reason I ended up getting sick on Transformers is because I went on probably 15 times back to back using the single rider line lol

1 being no motion sickness, 5 being severe

Transformers - no effect on me for motion sickness - 1
Spiderman - no effect on me for motion sickness - 1
Gringotts - no effect on me for motion sickness, very smooth - 1
Flight of Journey - I skipped it at the advisement of the TMs - guessing a 5
Mummy - I skipped it due to personal convictions, but the rest of the family said it would have been fine
Pteranadon Flyers - this can only be ridden with a child, not sure about the motion sickness piece
Kong - no effect on me for motion sickness - 1

Simpsons, I skipped at the advisement of the TM - guessing a 5
Minions - we did stationary seating, but my guess a 3 or 4 otherwise
Shrek - we did stationary seating, but I thinking a 1 if we sat in regular seats

See my comments within your post I quoted. This is coming from somebody who gets motion sickness from video games.

I don’t get motion sick at all. I have spent hundreds of hours reading in cars and airplanes, and I was one of a select few on our choppy snorkeling trip to be sitting below sipping wine while 2/3 of passengers were above, hanging over the railing.

The minions ride gets me if I go on it more than once. It is the only ride ever to have me feeling off.
