Hunger Games - Spoilers ok!

I am looking forward to seeing this movie. Part of it was filmed in the town I grew up in. It will be strange to see my small town on the big screen representing District 12.

ok, can someone give a synopsis for someone who has NO idea what these books are about?

I am very very excited for this movie! I blew through all 3 books in a week!

We very rarely go to the movies. In fact, Pixar movies are now the only ones we see in a theater. We're going to make an exception to the rule and see The Hunger Games within the next few weeks!

It looks like a lot of the premiere shows are sold out already, and I wouldn't want to be in a sold out theater anyway. Maybe a week or so after it opens we'll try to go mid-week.

So very excited. We are waiting to leave for vacation until Friday morning even though our Spring Break starts Thursday because we have 10 of our family and friends all doing the midnight opening. Loved the books!

It looks like a well done movie from the trailers I've seen. But the story line is way too creepy for me :goodvibes.

I'm SO excited!! I pulled out the first book to read again.
And from what I've seen of the casting, Gale is really the only one I thought was a little "off" from what I expected. I think the rest seems spot on.
I'm especially impressed with Haymitch, Cinna, and Katniss! :goodvibes I don't think they could have possibly done better!
I'm SO excited!! :cool1::yay:

I was hesitant at first to read this series, but then I saw the trailer for the movie and was like woah ... I must read this! and I wasn't dissapointed. I couldn't put the books down, and read the entire series in a week. I'm really looking forward to the movie, and from what I've seen so far from the trailer, I'm sure it's going to be great. Can't wait! :goodvibes

I guess I'm in the minority here, my wife talked me into reading this and at first it reminded me of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. Then just kind of turned into The Running man.

Having never read the books that is exactly what we said when we first started seeing the previews for the movie. "Oh, look. They turned The Running Man into a kids movie..."

Actually, the book is much more of a rip off of the Japanese film Battle Royale which very much predates The Hunger Games.. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/

I liked the first book (except the ending) and bailed halfway through the second book (it got repetitive and boring). If the movie is done well enough I may pick up and finish the second book and then third.

I drive by one of the main shooting sites on my way to work every morning and try to visualize what they did there. It was a VERY closed set, but supposedly where many of the Capitol scenes were done.

I enjoyed the books and am looking forward to the movie (as are all my friends). I am generally fine with the casting; I personally love Harrelson as Haymitch.

In a somewhat related note, what I'm more excited about is the upcoming Ender's Game movie. I've always had it at the top of my list of books that needed to be made into a movie. Casting looks amazing (Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham blows my mind with awesome). Anyways, point is, if you like stories about little kids thrown into gripping adult situations, its a good choice.

I am not much of a reader but my partner suggested this book series. At first, I did not give it much thought because I was not crazy about the context of the series. Once I started reading, I could not put the books down. The writing was incredible and I literally felt that I was living in Panem. I was completely drawn in. I read all three books in under a week and have been on pins and needles waiting for March 23rd. I have my ticket for the midnight showing and will probably go back to see it again over the weekend. popcorn::

From watching the trailers, I feel the cast is perfect for the movie although I pictured the characters from District 12 to be more gauntly and frail. I also pictured Haymitch to be heavier around the middle, but Woody Harrelson is perfect for the role. Lenny Kravitz will make a great Cinna.

I hadn't read the books last year, saw the casting calls for the film and didn't bother! It was too busy a spring / summer for us. We do movie extra work for fun, and usually summers only unless it is very local. But we saw the calls and met the look. Now that I have read the books, I'm totally kicking myself because it would have been worth it to be working on that little bit of movie magic! A lot of people will turn these things into vacations - stay on location for a few weeks, see the sites, and participate in the filming of a movie. You should try to do some extra work - because I think they plan to shoot at least partially in the low country area again. Since you are local - even better! Downside - you sometimes only get a few days or weeks notice in advance.
On a side note - if you ever get the chance to participate in the production of a MMP - you should. Granted - it pays crap (if at all), there is a TON of standing around, and tons of repetition - but it is FUN. My daughter gets the most work out of all of us (she is a tween), but even the 5 year old pulls it together and is a different kid on set (most kids are). The only thing that was the worst: there were some nights this past summer where we were shooting on location until 2-3AM. Thankfully, those shoots were with me and my tween. But even with that, the staff / casting / directors are usually going above and beyond to make things better for everyone (especially the children).

Random bit of thinking but was I the only one seeing Cinna as someone right off of Project Runway or someone a la Adam Lambert?

My son was talking about this book, he's 11. A co-worker was chattering about it at work, told me the whole story. I'm not sure I could watch a movie like that. Don't like the idea of hunting people so am not sure if this would be ok for my 11 yr old to read. But he says all the kids at school are reading it and he even wants to see the movie. Guess I should read that summary someone posted uh?
