This is very close to my area. Now on the evening news it has effected several hospital's as well. Today at noon they reported around 1,300 case's of the NorvoVirus! :crazy2:  :scared:

DH was sick last weekend, and is home again today with just a "cold". He had the flu lastweekend (which is where I believe I got it from). He works in the public at the Mall. There are alot of people that I know right now that are sick with this. Guess I am glad that I still have to stay in the house. I will not go one place with this going around, it is the last thing that I need.

Update: It is now over 1,500 sick and part of a hospital has been closed down!

I wonder what they will trace this back to?

We had an outbreak a few years ago at the University of Maryland campus and I think they traced it back to some catered food at a conference. Yikes, that stuff is scary.

They have said that it did not come from food source. This is the Norwalk Virus that made so many sick, several years ago on alot of the Cruise Ships. It is spreading fast here, now a Nursing home and another place has it as well.

The episode at the Univ. of Maryland that I mentioned in my earlier post was also Norwalk but it was eventually traced to a caterer (not necessarily the food, but a food handler). It seems that with this many people ill, it had to start at some type of gathering.

I just saw on the news tonight that it's in our area as well. My dd6 just told me yesterday when she came home from school that half her classmates were out sick and several went home sick during the day.

Where is your area?

Wow, this is pretty scary. The way it's spreading so fast is nuts. If any of you are in the area that this is happening be careful and stay healthy! :wizard: Wash those hands.

It's here in Maryland, too. In fact, the college my daughter attends, near Baltimore, just announced the the Health Department has decreed that many of their common areas are to be closed this weekend, and all student activities are cancelled. So far my daughter and her roommate are still alright, but they are two of 3 girls on her hall who don't have it. Told her to carry in, go out or have food delivered, keep her door closed and window open and buy lots of lysol spray. Failing that, I suggested that she come home. The school has already had an "emergency" cleaning of their bathroom, but I'm sure if it gets that bad again I will find her on our doorstep!

I work with little kids (love them, but they're germ factories) teaching them computer...did you know that a computer mouse is usually the dirtiest thing in an office? Wonder how long I've got before it "gets" me!?

We had something like this a couple of weeks back at my school and within the community (fortunately, we all managed to stay healthy). I'd say 20-30% of the student body was absent. I remember one day, 14 of the 75 4th graders were absent, and then they send another 17 home. Other classes (like my kindergarten son's) weren't so bad, but then a couple of days later, the siblings were all getting sick. Everyone had then same symptoms, intestinal problems and vomiting, along with a high fever starting on the 2nd day.

I work in the ER of the township where the school is located in the original post. It's been a nightmare, so many sick people. We have no beds left in the hospital, and have been holding admitted patients in the ER, which really puts a strain on the normal operational flow. Thank God I'm off today! Now here's hoping I don't get it.

What is this? A real bad stomach virus? Is it life-threatening or just extremely miserable?

I work in the Lehigh Valley. I'm very good about washing my hands - if only everyone was!!

There was an outbreak of the NoroVirus at my son's school a few years ago, but I don't think it got as bad as it is where you live. That is one nasty virus! I'd rather have the flu than the NoroVirus!

It's an extremely bad stomach virus, my son was vomiting every 1/2 hour, sometimes sooner! And when there's nothing left and the stomach is emptied out, they dry heave! Nasty!

It could be life threatening if you became severely dehydrated and didn't seek medical attention. Basically, if you can't keep any fluids down at all for an extended period of time, say approximately 24 hrs, then you definitely need iv fluids. Chldren, the elderly, and those otherwise compromised need attention much sooner.

Due to my weaken immune system and just getting out of rejection, I am staying in! This is the last thing that I need. I would love to go out, just anywhere, but I can not risk it. Going to take something out of the freezer and do some good ole cooking this "Cold" weekend and avoid getting sick! :thumbsup2
