Saw this bumper sticker in an email I got today from hubby, I chuckled at it so I thought I'd pass it on...

"STUPIDITY IS NOT A DISABILITY. Park elsewhere!"

Thanks for sharing. That is funny. I've read about someone who got a similar message printed on business size cards. When he would find someone parked in a handicapped spot without a permit or license plate that allowed parking there, he would stick one under the windshield wiper.

I have a peice of paper thats says (and I think it is funny)

"if your not handicapped when you parked here, you will be when you leave". (BTW I've had this for probably 15 years... back before the PC term of disabled)

Nothing ticks me off more then someone just running into the bank. Even funny putting this peice of paper on their car LOL

...as a pedestrian with an ECV it's even more annoying when people park their cars blocking curb cuts. I had a friend in high school who used a wheelchair full time who put those types of fliers on misparked cars recreationally, I swear this guy would actually stop and go into ever public parking lot he saw and check the handicapped spots to make sure no one was parked illegally. He's going to make a fine ADA lawyer someday though I think he'd be better suited for police work LOL

Last Friday when I went to pick up my dd's power wheelchair from school, there was only one handicapped parking spot left. There was a guy stopped in the stall van accessible spot next to me without a permit. I parked and figured he'd probably be gone when I got back out. Well, he wasn't, so I knocked on his window to ask him to move so I could put down my ramp. He asked what I meant, so I explained I needed at least for him to move over one space. He did move over enough for me to get the wheelchair in, but stayed parked in the handicapped spot. What nerve.

Sue,
I would have taken my cell phone and called the cops and the school principal. That person would have been gone and quick.
Where I attend college the security guys are real quick to call the cops if a person is illegally parked in a handicapped spot.
And we are real careful not to park in spots for lifts since my lift is a rear one.

It was kind of weird since the guy was sitting there. If he had not been in his car I would have thought of calling the police to ticcket him. As it was, I just wanted to get out of there ASAP before school let out to avoid being caught in the traffic jam.Ï

Sue,
Guess I am plain mean. I was at the grocery the other day and guy pulled into the handicapped spot to use the atm cutting me off. No handicapped placard, I saw a police car on the other side of the lot. Went to the officer and pointed out the person. He went over ticketed they guy and had him move the car. I then pulled into the spot and thanked the officer. I see people park in the handicapped spots all the time. Had one blocking it today to pick up his friend. He pulled into it as I pointed at my placard. I picked up my cell phone and waved it at him. He moved.

Please post it!!

I can not even count the ppl who park and sit :(

I want some of those stickers you can not easily get off windows :D SERIOUSLY.

Right now we're going through problems here in my building....
We have 2 spots (and about 6 cars who could use them). Well one spot is desigated for just the ONE guy... no one else can park there and we could be towed if we parked there :(

I wish I knew what to do, who to call. I do nto think it is fair.
BTW it is for the guys wife. Granted they are elderly but if you can pack 2 cases of beer up a flight of stairs, I dont feel you need a spot for JUST YOU.
Im so angry about it. Im tempted not to pay my rent. We've been dealing with this (again.... last year they took it down until January) since January.

These hot pink "tickets" i got from the county fair that they were giving out through the Area Agency on aging and the disabilities program. Have had these since before I got my handicapped permit.

It just peeves me to see people that dont belong in handicapped parking or parking in the area next to it where you unload a wheelchair. Even worse teens drivng grandma and granpas car and using the handicapped sticker. I am always armed with my cell phone and I have slammed my door a few times into peoples cars for sitting where they dont belong.

I dont always use handicapped parking only on my "bad" days (I have fybromyalgia and kidney problems)and I get looks because I have a two year old and while I may "look" normal I am far from it and have gotten into many verbal scraps about it. I wouldn't have a handicapped sticker if I werent entitled to would I? I was entitled to it years ago but I never wanted it until my Dr finally said I needed it and I begrudgeingly took it.

I wish there were more people who called when others park where they dont belong, I've given my space up for people more handicapped then me because of the stupidity of those who park where they wont. I think they need to raise the fines from the $50 to 100 to $500 or more and then it will free up more for those who need it.

I wish our police and people in authority did something about people who park in disabled parking bays. I saw a disabled lady have to walk a distance with sticks and another lady had parked in the disabled bay who did not have a sticker this was in our Tesco supermarket I pointed this out to the customer service desk and she said they could not do anything on private property.:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

A lot has to do with the attitude of the police. Frankly here in Miami it stinks. I asked an officer about what to do when finding someone illegally parked. The answer, you can call 911 but don't expect anyone to come anytime soon. The attituded was we can't be bothered to enforce handicapped parking. Our $250 fine does absolutely no good when the Metro Dade cops refuse to enforce the law!
