I saw a really cute Winniw the Pooh one at Target a month or so ago when I was getting a Baby Shower gift. I didn't get it, because I don't know enough about humidifiers/vaporizers to know if it was a good one or not. Maybe ask the pharmacist which ones are good when you are there.

I would only suggest knowing that Too much humidity can be just as bad, if not worse than Not having it....so follow those directions closely and/or speak with your doctor about it.....All that moisture can "breed germs" ;)
I am sure target has the basics for you...and Congrats by the way!

Any cheap cool mist humidifier will work just fine! Clean it out everyday. I prefer cool mist because you can place it close to the crib and you don't have to worry about it spitting out hot water. also cool mist works better if you ever have to deal with croup!

I find the warm mist ones to work so much better personally. I always felt that the cool mist did nothing to help when the kids couldn't breath. Also, for croup, the mist from one of these things isn't going to help enough to matter so I wouldn't be concerned with that (as a former croup sufferer and the mom of 3 kids that all had croup).

The American Academyof Pediatrics recommends cool mist.

So does the Mayo Clinic

For their safety, always use cool-mist humidifiers for children. Hot water or steam from a warm-mist humidifier or steam vaporizer can burn a child if he or she gets too close.

and they also provide this info:
Warm-mist and cool-mist humidifiers are equally effective in humidifying the air. Also, by the time the water vapor reaches your child's lower airways, it's the same temperature regardless of whether it started out warm or cool.

Seattle Children's has a nice info page too, with specific symptoms that would indicate a need for calling the doctor.

I hope your little one is better soon.

I know they do but for practical use, the warm mist ones were so much better. If they recommended the warm mist ones and a kid got burned they would get sued-they know that so they don't. We just put ours up so the kids couldn't reach them and they were just fine.
