DH woke me up last night swearing he saw a mouse :earseek: scamper across our kitchen floor. Personally, I think he had way too much sausage dip, fritos, brownies, and sodas during the bowl games yesterday. :goodvibes
I got up and looked around and didn't see anything. This morning I cleaned the floors, cupards, etc. Even checked out the bags of dog food in the laundry room and did not see any sign of a mouse ::MickeyMo . My mission today is to "get rid of the mouse" per my DH. Growing up we had a problem with mice; mom bought a devise that she plugged into an outlet. I believe it kept the mice away by sound waves. Anyone know where I can get one or if they have a better idea? We have 2 dogs also and will not use poison or traps.

TIA!!

Look for something called the Mice Cube. It's a rectangular piece of plastic that has a trap door that mice can only go in, not out. Then once the mouse is trapped you can release them (preferably a long way away from your house) alive. :)

I've seen that plug-in thing you refer to before. I'd be willing to bet that Home Depot or Lowes has them.

Ok, call me naive, but if you had a mouse wouldn't your dog get it? Or at least go nuts barking at it?
I think your dh dreamt it. :teeth:

You can get those plug-in things at Wal-Mart or Target.

P.S. Why is it your mission (per your DH) to get rid of the mouse?! He's the one who saw it! :p

2nd these - they work. But, the mice we kept catching ,would come back and his release out of the box got slower and slower.... the initial time he scurried out like a bat outta you-know-what. By the last few times, we'd have to shake the box to get him to leave.

FYI, the plug in thingies DO NOT work, in my experience.

This probably not the humane treatment you're looking for, but our landlord picked up these bait packets from a local exterminator. I don't know the name, but the mice feed on the packet and go back to the nest to die. The disgusting truth is that mice feed upon each other when of ill health according to the exterminator.

The carcasses do not leave an odor in your home (well, we had one that did). These packets began to work in about a week, placed about 5 or six throughout the house in places where we'd seen mice and out of reach of the dogs. The mice became a little more active at first and we did find evidence that the bait was working (2 in the basement and 1 in the stove), but haven't seen a mouse in over a month since treating.

My vote is for this too. We had a mouse problem last year after our cat died (the cat never caught mice, but apparently he seemed intimidating to them!). I hated the idea of killing the mice so I bought a Mice Cube. Very easy and within a few weeks, my DH had thrown 6 or so mice into the woods and we didn't have a problem anymore. I found, though, that the cube needed to be weighed down or the mouse could flip it and get out. I just put a brick on top.

is agree with the fact that your dog would be going bonkers and you would find mice droppings...and those mice would be in the dog food...i think your hubby needs to cut down on the food intake..

Sorry I do not feel you have to be humane to things that can make you very sick. I have a mini electracution(sp) box...meets humane kill standards...but there is no way they are coming back. And they will, if you don't kill them...mice are very rapid breeders, and if you have one, you probably have several. Sorry. Good luck to you, what ever you decide. Also mice LOVE wax if you have any candles stored in drawers check them out. Yes I am very experienced with mice...I have a 150 yo house (soon to be gone too btw)

That is what we use. It works very well and once we got two at the same time. We then take them into the woods and release them.

Those things you stick in the outlets that are supposed to make noise do NOT work. My dad's house was litterally infested with mice a couple years ago. I can't even describe it. As soon as the house quieted down for the night you'd hear the mice running through the walls. And this started a few years AFTER we started getting those noise things.
We use an older version of the mouse cube thing that's being described. Ours is metal, and we put peanut butter on a piece of foil inside it to lure the mouse in. We then get rid of the mouse miles from the house.
I understand the whole being humane to animals thing. But with mice you can't be humane. You HAVE to get rid of them. If nothing else, they will smell up your house if they die somewhere. The bigger concern though, is the fact that they're really dirty animals.

I agree!!! I lost my cat spring of 2004 and boy we had mice that winter. I tried several things.... i even tried those things that you plug in by i think sunbeam.... dont waste your money!!!!! I finally gave in this summer and got another cat. I have not seen 1 mouse this year ALIVE....and i have only seen 2 dead ones. GET A CAT!!!!!

Some of us are allergic to cats! We have an ancient have a heart trap to catch and release them in the park. Once I put the trap in the car and the mouse got out - I had to drive the kindergarten carpool, so I drove 5 little girls home with a mouse loose in the minivan (I didn't tell them and they never knew!) We only get a mouse in when it starts to get cold outside and they are looking for a warm place. I see no need to kill it.

I'm allergic too. So... we've got eight cats. Hello, Allegra! :rotfl2:

Heck, around here, you're hard pressed to find as much as a spider.
