Huh. Is this Right or Should I Call Back?

I just called Member Services to have my name added to the other parties that I am traveling with so that I could check in for them and was told, "No. We cannot do that. You are already on a reservation."

Now, I have traveled with other people before and had no problem having people listed on more than one reservation. Is this a new policy or an old policy being enforced? Should I call back and say that I need to add names to the reservations?

She did say I could ask at resort and maybe they would let me check in for them. I am pretty sure that they will not allow someone to check in who is not on the reservation.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

Oh, and we are NOT on the dining plan and neither are the other rooms.

I was told by a cast member that one of the post- 9/11 changes is that they will not knowingly book one person to two rooms at WDW. The point of that is so they know exactly who is staying in what room. You can probably find a way around that by not disclosing that you are booked in the other room, but that is their policy.

I believe this is also necessary because of My Magic +. You can only be on one reservation because your magic band (once they are property-wide) will act as a room key. If your account is listed in two reservations that will mess up the system.

In any event, yes, I have also been told that you can't be listed on more than one reservation. I was in the process of moving people around so it worked out in the end.

At one point recently you could still be listed as a check in person without being listed as staying in the room. This may have been before the last upgrade so it could have changed but might be worth a try. Otherwise if you have anyone else with you, maybe you could list one of you on one reservation and the other on the other reservation allowing you to get both rooms checked in.

I have been named on more than one room reservation a number of times when we have others coming with us for the reason you state. The last time that occurred for me was in Feb so I don't think it is a change in the new system since the system began before then. I also do not buy the 911 excuse since having one name on two reservations is common practice most anywhere (e.g., wedding parties do it all the time, including at WDW, when reserving blocks of rooms for possible attendees). Frankly, I just think you are running into the all too common MS problem of getting a CM who doesn't know what to do and just makes up new rules on the spot adopted from his misunderstanding of something he was told in training that does not apply to the situation, e.g.possibly told that he should try get the specific names for each room reservation and he construes that to mean you cannot have the same name on two rooms

I'm on a two reservations for one night and this was done just 6-8 weeks ago. I'd call back and just say you want to add yourself to such and such a reservation and see what happens.

Put "Travel with" notice on both yours and the other reservations you want to check-in. Make sure all reservations have the other reservations cross listed.
You can then check-in all rooms.
I did this at SSR for three rooms booked under different names. DW & I arrived early and I was able to check-in all three rooms. Two of the rooms were online check-in and one was not. Inform the CM at check-in what you want to do and they can be most helpful.
