HS to Cape May?

Right now we have a 5:10 pm ADR for dinner at Cape May on our HS day (not a fan of most TS in the park --have been to Mama Melrose, Hollywood and Vine and Sci Fi) and am just wondering what time we should take the boat across to make it for our ADR? I am assuming we should make it back it in time for an 8:30 Fantasmic? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Personally, I would walk. It's about a 15 minute walk and you don't have to worry about waiting on the boats.

Well Duh, I didn't even think of that option, would we go through the park main exit or somewhere else? The only problem with this I can think of is that it will be August, so stinking hot and we may not have the energy by that point in the day, but good to have that option.

Right out the main gate and then to the left. There is a walkway. You pass a few bus stops and then its just a walkway. Not much shade until you get closer to the boardwalk but you basically walk along the water pathway. 15 minutes is conservative. We are not fast walkers. :)

If it is really hot out then you can wait for the boat. Our rule of thumb is that if we just miss a boat then we'll walk. But if a boat is waiting or coming soon, we'll wait for it. But it is kind of a long walk to Cape May. I would say it is closer to 25 minutes. I've timed the walk from the Yacht Club lobby to DHS gates and it was 22 minutes in September heat.

The boat ride is slightly quicker than walking but as others pointed out you might have to wait for the boat. I would walk to down towards the boat dock and if there's no boat in sight then I'd just walk.

It's a pretty good hike (although a nice peaceful walk) to cape may from HS. Wouldn't want to do that in the heat of the day. We did it later in the evening and it was nice. Actually we walked from cape may to HS. The boats are easier and roughly the same timing even if you do need to wait.

Thanks everyone. I guess we can leave HS around 4:20/30 for a 5:10 ADR and if the boat is there great and if not we can see how we feel if want to wait or walk. How often do the boats come (I assume there is more than one boat)?

I think that is a good plan. We too walk if we just missed a boat (or, if the line is so long that we know we won't make it on which is unlikely to be a problem at that time of the day). We must walk fast because we usually beat the boat we just missed. :)

When you are done at Cape May is there bus service back to your resort?

No, there isn't. Your options: go to a park to catch a bus, either DHS or Epcot (but, unless you have already been to Epcot, you will require hopper park admission because you have to walk through the park). Take a taxi or Uber. Option of last resort is to take a bus to DTD then a bus to your resort. This is very time-consuming.
