HS Star Wars Launch bay strategy

Hi, I've never been to Hollywood Studios and am struggling in trying to plan my day.

We would like to visit Chewbacca at Launch Bay; we don't have a lot of interest in other aspects of this area.
How long will it take to see Chewy? Is there a better time of day (for example; if we get there before 11 will the line be shorter? or is it about the same all day)
Is there a way to bypass most of the other stuff and just see Chewy?

Typically lines are 20-30 minutes. Should be shorter before 11AM. You are not "required" to do anything in Launch Bay, just walk in and go straight to Chewy.

Agreed with pp. Just walk in and do the meet and greets you want to and feel free to leave when you are done. It's was a pretty quick visit for us as well as we weren't overly interested in the majority of the stuff in the launch bay.

The Launch Bay really isn't that big .. and really not that much to see. It is what it is .. a thrown together area to help spread out the crowds in a attraction-light park.
It's fun for any Star Wars fan (just for the meet and greets) and worth it for those alone, but nothing exciting for a casual fan.

You can skip the movie, walk right in .. go to whatever M&G you want, walk around and see the exhibits and leave. That's what we did when I was there. My son was scared of characters so we only saw Chewbacca (as he cowered around the corner), interacted with the Jawa, and spent time seeing the exhibits (some of which are IN the queue for the M&G). The store at the exit is fun to look through as well.

It's dark, and the props are mostly behind glass, so it is really hard to get good pictures except for at the M&Gs.

FWIW, we hit the Launch Bay at rope drop one morning a few weeks ago. We were able to meet/take pics with Chewy, Kylo Ren and BB-8, all within 15 minutes total. And that was with the 2 minute wait for getting a free certificate and photo for being the first family of the day to meet Chewy, which was a highlight of my son’s trip.
