HRRR badly broken?

Nobody should have any trepidation in riding this ride after it opens back up. They wouldn't run it if it wasn't 100% safe. I've seen a few comments that seem to be questioning whether it is and I can assure you there is nothing to be afraid of if they are running the ride.

At first when Universal was going to use this coaster company that never had a coaster in the U.S. before I though it would be a cool thing...but now I think they would be good to change it to HRRR...Hollywood Rip, Recycle, Replace.

Agreed that B&M or Intamin would be a better choice.

Maybe they can replace it with a good coaster!!!! ;)
Sorry all you RRR fans but:rotfl2:

I wouldn't worry about safety. When I was there in August they wouldn't let people ride because the music wasn't working properly. The ride was fine, just no music, for 30 minutes. Ugh.

We, OK OK I use the term loosely since I did not ride, rode in December. I havent broken it to the crowd yet cause ya never know, but, we'll be there in October. Guess we'll see what happenss but not so sure anyone will be heartbroken.

Hi stranger!
When are you going in Oct.?

HHMMMMM.........I never noticed any bumps during my rides? Guess I was lucky and always got the smooth cars.

As far as coasters go, it's pretty good in my opinion. I've been on over 60 different coasters in my lifetime and I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10. One thing that always bugged me about RRR is all the brakes. I understand why they need them (in case 1 of the cars fail, block brakes are used) but I was never a fan. I know it also helps the ride last longer and therefore the music but I always wished they'd use regular coaster cars instead of the small ones. I think if they make that transition then you'll resolve some of the issues with the current cars plus they can ease off on the brakes because of it, giving the ride better airtime. They can also run 2 full trains and get rid of the moving loading platform. This will help with loading issues and maybe allow them to finally incorporate the Universal Express on this ride. I don't know, just some thoughts I've had.

I think even if the ride is open the next couple of days I think I'll pass on riding it until whatever the issue is has been figured out and corrected.

P.S. Universal should have gone with B&M or even Intamin

I was going to reply and say they should have gotten another B&M since they are so reliable. I don't see Universal ever getting an Intamin unless it had the over the shoulder restraints after all seating problems with The Forbidden Journey many Intamin coasters are so restrictive and how a lot of their rides seem problematic and having more downtime than other manufacturers.

Well good thing I got my friend to ride it the 1st time in June and he was once an rapid Universal guy. Otherwsie we'd originally ride it before HHN starts.

It was closed all day on 9/18/10. Then saw it testing when I was out at City Walk. Wandered over by the Blue Man Group theater and saw they only had one train on the track running the course.

I asked a Blue Man Staff member if they knew what was going on and they said they're not sure but the court yard in front of the theater was full of the ride vehicles removed from the track on Wednesday.
Something is def up!

i read the article that was released.

looks like it will be down for longer than what the public hoped for.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Guests at Universal Studios won't be riding the park's newest roller coaster this weekend.

Officials at Universal Orlando said the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has been closed for maintenance since Wednesday.

The closure came after the manufacturer of the roller coaster sent a safety bulletin on Sept. 2 that warned of a potential serious flaw in vehicles used on the ride that was uncovered during stress testing.

Maurer Sohne, the German roller coaster manufacturer, said the cars traveling at 65 mph with 1,850 riders per hour may not be "fatigue endurable."

"Anything in a Sept. 2 manufacturer's advisory would have been dealt with weeks ago. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is temporarily closed for unrelated maintenance," Universal Orlando Public Relations Senior Director Tom Schroder said in a statement.

Schroder said Universal Orlando is obsessive about safety and aggressively inspects and conducts safety programs on all of the theme park's rides. He said the programs meet or exceed all manufacturer guidelines.

The roller coaster manufacturer said a repair solution for the safety flaw could take up to three months. Universal won't say if it uncovered any related problems and said the ride will be back up and running as soon as safely possible.

Nuuuuuuu! :sad1: Dang it. Hasn't that been there for a couple years? You'd think on something like that, the major stress testing would have been done before completion of the ride and opening to the public. Granted, they recall cars from 10 years ago because of issues they just so happen to find now so who knows.

we were on it last year and they had trouble keeping it running all day long. Was down a little less than it was working. Now with a possible safety issue. I like the ride and we are going down this christmas again...I hope they get it corrected.:)

Confirm it will be down through Wednesday. That's just guarantee down time - I think it will be down much longer.

This ride could be one of those rides that you want to go on every day if they can make every single car smooth. Right now, you risk getting a rough car and a very bad experience. Hopefully, this opportunity to improve the cars won't be ignored.

I saw the original, that was in the press here in Fl.
This is my take on this situation.
If the maker of the coaster says, dont use this, theres a potential issue, were working on it, and its going to take us 2-3 months to fix the issue, and in the mean time, dont use it. (short pararphrased version)

How, did Universal, "fix/deal with" the problem weks ago, if the maker hasnt been able to do so? Especially if the advisory, was only issued just about 3 weeks ago?

Ill be the first to admit that Im a C student in math, but something is not adding up here.

Ill put my money on a pr nightmare about to hit, and HRRR being down until the Christmas Holidays.

Perhaps HRRR was the first coaster experiencing these issues and USF were the ones who informed the Mauer Sohne? Perhaps the advisory was issued because of HRRR. I have no idea, just postulating.

Hmmm, I should have gone on it when I had the chance. I didn't want to wait on line.

Is anyone where familiar with the Bat, the short-lived roller coaster over at Kings Island many, many years ago?

HRRR seems to be Orlando's version of the Bat. Sad, but at least I got to ride it a lot if it has the same ending as that other coaster. HRRR is not the best coaster ever, but wicked good air time and nice floating sensation in row 6.

The big pity is, I really think it would have been open for HHN if not for this lastest issue.
