First, let me say that I am somewhat technologically challenged. However, I will need to use my laptop to do some work while we are at the HRH. If anyone can answer my questions, I will be very thankful!

1. Can I just plug my laptop into the phone jack and use my regular dial-up? I use Mindspring. I searched the DIS boards and read where I would need a local ISP number. How do I find that?

2. If I use the high speed internet in the room, how does that work? It is 9.95 per 24 hours, right? How do I connect to that?

I really hate that I have to do a couple of hours of work during my vacation, but I guess doing work at Universal is way better than doing it at home!

Thanks in advance for any help!

I never could get the eternet connection to work in the room. When reported, they brought down a new ethernet cord, which also didn't work. Then the morning I was checking out, I had a message that I had to wait on someone to pick up the "borrowed" cord in my room prior to checking out. Apparently they've had problems with people stealing the ethernet cord? An inconvenience and waste of time. I ended up having to use dial up which is a PITA. And I was there on business, not vacation.

Pugdog007, if I have to use dialup, how will that work? Will I just connect like I do at home? Will it be long distance? Sorry for the ignorant questions, but I'm not that computer savvy. Thanks!

Just take the phone cord out of the phone on the table and plug it into your laptop. Does your company have an 800# to dial into? There will be charges regardless, but charges will be much less if you dial in through an 800#.

You also have the option to go wireless- at least we did at PBH this past July. My DH and our travelling companion would sit at the dining room table with their laptops every evening catching up on work. Worked wonderfully.

True but you still have to be able to tap into a network or a peer-to-peer, and this was the problem.
