DH & I are looking to take our 3 teenagers to Universal over Easter break 2009. I was going to book the kids suite, but have decided on 2 adjoining rooms instead.

How tight is a garden view room with a roll away bed?

It's easier if the kids each have their own bed, and 2 bathrooms will be very handy.

It is fine. You could also get one deluxe and one standard and avoid the rollaway.

Unfortunately we need 5 beds.

DH will be sharing a room with his 2 step-sons, and I will be sharing my room with my step-daughter.

So I'm thinking about 2 standard rooms and getting one roll away.

The deluxe queen room has two queen beds and a pullout couch and is a much larger room than the standard room. If you get that and a standard room, you will have 5 beds.

Great questions....I never thought to ask that. We are 6 and getting 2 rooms with a rollaway in each so we each have our own bed...... I will post back how tight it is. Wish I had thought to ask months ago....maybe it would have been better for us to do one deluxe and one standard....too late now - prices have gone up quite a bit.

For future reference...do they have deluxes connecting to standards? I need to have that door between the rooms.....

Thanks.

How much of a discount is given over rack rate? AAA disc?

I've been given price quotes for my dates of 4/5 - 4/10 (Easter Break) of:

kids suite - $684 + tax per night
Standard room - $369 + tax per night
Deluxe queen - $454 + tax per night.

At these prices is would make MORE sense to book the 1 kids suite.

yes, they do have some connecting rooms.
you can leave the doors open inside the rooms to go back and forth instead of having to go out into the hallway and into the next room by hall door.

the locks are double inside the room that are connecting.
both rooms have locks on them.

if you are staying in a room that has the connecting inside doors, both sides will be kept locked for privacy.

It varies and sometimes isn't even offered. I would call and ask about ALL discounts (AAA, annual pass)and then see if it is to your advantage to go that route. Those rates won't be out for a while yet though.

Since we want to go the Sunday-Friday BEFORE Easter, do you think it's advantageous to book the room/s NOW? Or should we wait a while?

I'm thinking about booking the kids suite, then changing to the 2 rooms if necessary.

If you book now, you just have them adjust the price as it changes. Remember that you will likely have to put down a one night's deposit on each room.

people have already been booking that time period.

easter/spring break from schools vary per the region you live in.
many are weeks away from the Easter period while still many are in the middle of the Easter time period. just can't win...

book now, modify later.
you need to guarentee the rooms you need.
not many kids suites so jump on it now and don't let the price give you sticker shock. you can get it lowered based on what discounts are out then.
ap has not been giving much at all, if any during some of those time periods.

you might get a better deal with 2 standard connecting rooms.
this is just my opinion.

When you called and got these prices, did you just ask for a quote for 5 people in a room?

They charge extra for each adult in the room after the first two. Also, if the kids are under 18, I think they still qualify as children, they do not charge extra for children.

**I don't have any children, so I am not 100% sure on this, so be sure to ask the reservations person to clarify what they consider a child.**

I think you should call back and ask for a quote of the standard queen and deluxe queen. Be sure to get the quotes of 2 people in the room, and then the quotes for 3 people in the room if your children are considered extra adults in the room.

Does that make sense?

I wanted to add that you should go ahead and book your room(s) if you are sure of your vacation dates! Especially if you want the kids suite, there aren't very many of those.

For the prices I received:

kids suite - $684 + tax per night
Standard room - $369 + tax per night
Deluxe queen - $454 + tax per night.

The kids suite is quoted for 2 adults & 3 kids,
The standard for 1 adult & 1 kid
The deluxe for 1 adult & 2 kids.

All the kids are considered kids since they are under 18.

BUT, now I'm thinking I could do 2 standard rooms...DH & I and our daughter in one room and the boys in the adjoining room.

I presume we'd get a better discount on a standard room versus a suite.

I don't think you can get two standard queen adjoining rooms. I think they are all king/queen or king suite/queen. But it never hurts to ask, as I have been wrong before.. lol.

yes, I would book 2 standards if I were you.

Oh no!! Dont tell me that!!! I have two standard (garden view) rooms booked and I called and they told me I am guaranteed connecting......!!!!! I hope the reservation guy knew what he was talking about!!!!

Well, I did it...I booked 2 garden view rooms with a GUARANTEED connecting door. April 5 - April 10.

I am REALLY hoping there is some kind on discount...even AAA...because I will NOT be happy if the kids suite winds up cheaper than the 2 rooms I booked.

And now we wait...35 weeks from today.

Time to go and read the UG.
