HRH - bad raps - are these standard rooms?

Was just wondering -- for those of you who have stayed at the HRH standard garden view rooms -- have your rooms been rundown and unsatisfactory? There seems to be some bad reviews lately, and I was wondering if the standard rooms are the ones with the problems. We've booked a standard room for 3 nights next week -- and now I'm getting worried. Should we request a certain floor or area of the hotel where they're not as problematic? Any suggestions?

I wouldn't be concerned by some bad reviews. Problems can occur even in the best hotels. People are more likely to report problems as a way to vent and as a heads up to other people. There are more satisfied people at the HRH than those who are not. We've never had any kindf problem there.

That is true....things happen in all hotels. The HRH is a nice hotel, we found our room to be very clean and not shabby looking at all. The HRH has a different personality and attitude than the other hotels. I personally do not like it, but not because of the rooms, but because of the overall feeling aned attitude of the place - but that's the Hard Rock - they are all the same. It's nice to have a choice of hotels to suite everyone's tastes.

If you do encounter a problem with your room do not suffer is silence - Take yourself AND your bags directly down to the lobby and speak to the manager. Do not tell the bellman or the clerk or housekeeping - they honestly do not care about your story. By going to the lobby in person with luggage in tow means you mean business and you are not going back to that room. Also do not make the mistake of calling down to the desk with your problem....you will just be jerked around, put on hold, etc... Also do not stay in a bad room thinking you will take care of this when you get home and write a letter after the fact. It may not even reach the person intended and put yourself in the readers position - there is nothing they can do NOW...you checked out. Very rarely will they refund you any money. The best thing...get in front of the manager in person and get what you want.

Even when a hotel say "full to capacity" there are ALWAYS rooms open and available...there is always something the MANAGER can do as the manager is the only one that can make things happen when you are unhappy.

Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely keep that in mind. We'll be there in 3 weeks after our stay in WDW. Hopefully we'll get a decent room. I've also been a little concerned with what I've been reading lately. I booked us a deluxe room and this is our first trip. Don't want to end up in a shabby room! Thanks again.:D

I don't think you have anything to worry about, but I love the above poster's tips. I'm taking notes......

My friend and I had a "standard" room and it was terrific. The only problem we encountered was the phone in the room was in-op. Unfortunately we didn't discover it until the last day because we had cell phones, lol. We called the front desk to let them know.

We had a great stay at the HRH at the end of June. The room was very clean. We loved the atmosphere of the hotel. The only think we didn't like was the pool. It was crowded and the water was very warm. My teenage son never got the cd he expected to get but I would definetely stay there again. The walk to the parks was around the same as the walks to the bus stops at Disney. That and FOTL was worth it.

Since I started this thread, I just thought I'd let you know how it was.... We stayed there 3 nites last week (8/3-8/6) standard room, and I thought it was great! not rundown at all! Plus, we lucked out and got a corner room on the 6th floor, garden view, but it was beautiful. I thought the room was very spacious, 2 queen beds, an extra sink outside of the bathroom, nice chair with ottoman, table, etc. Everything very clean, and looked almost like new to me. I really felt like I was living in luxury.

We arrived at the hotel around 9:00 am, checked in with no waiting in line. Naturally our room wasn't ready, which I did not expect it to be, but we wanted the keys for the FOTL access. We did the paperwork; the check-in girl did ask to see my Fan Club card, glanced at it, and that was it. She gave us a phone number to call from the parks during the day to find out if our room was ready.

We walked to IOA, and went right on whatever rides the kids wanted. When it started to rain (pretty hard) around 12:30, I called the hotel, they said the room was ready, gave us the room number, told us our key was now activated, and we went right in.

It was great!!!

I'll try to write more or answer any questions if anyone is interested, but we just got back late last night -- I had to go back to work today, so now I'm on about my 5th of about 12 loads of laundry.

I DO WANT TO THANK EVERYONE ON THESE BOARDS FOR ALL OF THE ADVICE YOU'VE GIVEN ME THE LAST FEW MONTHS! YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!! This was our first trip to Universal, and we absolutely LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!!!

thanks for posting:sunny:

HRH is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in! I loved it! I stayed in a standard room twice and never had a problem! Well I shouldn't say never, we did have a problem with the faucet in the bathroom but it wasn't because it was shabby, it seems the guests before us either turned it too hard or something and it became loose but other than that we were living the life of luxury as far as I was concerned specially since I only paid $99 pnt rate with the Entertainment card. :p

Isn't Universal a total revelation?? We had no idea what to expect and we floored by how great it was. We too loved the HRH and are going back in March 05.
Glad it worked out.

HRH is awesome! I have stayed there 9 times and in almost every room/suite category. I have only encountered minor problems which had nothing to do with my room.

We just returned from the HRH, and I was worried as well, but we really enjoyed it there and there room was fine. I don't remember the room, but we were standard garden view on the 2nd floor. It looked very nice. My only problem was with the carpet. It looked nice, but was very matted and didn't feel so great on bare feet. When packing/unpacking I laid a towel down on the floor to kneel on. Otherwise, we loved it there and would definitely recommend it and return there ourselves.
