The HP Touchpad is on closeout sale for $99. It was $499 just six weeks ago.

HP is discontinuing the Touchpad and the Pre phones. They have decided to cut their losses, and will be killing the whole webOS ecosystem. Although they are talking about licensing it, but the fact is no one will pay to license the OS now that they have decided to kill it.

The downside of course, is there will be next to no new apps for the device since no one is going to develop for a dead system. However, there is some value to be had. It is fine for surfing the web, it has a Kindle app, and I believe it also plays Amazon Prime movies.

One major downside is no Netflix app.

I’m thinking about getting one for my daughter to watch movies on. I could use it to read Kindle books. It would be great for traveling. We could take it to D World.

Look on the Budget Board, there is a ridiculously long thread about this. My husband has been on line all day trying to get one.

I am sure he will have success, as he will not give up.

But, from what I've read there are NONE, anywhere.

I've got a friend who bought one of these at full price ($600) a few weeks ago. He's hoping to get his money back. Why would somebody buy a device that is destined never to have its software upgraded or any bugs fixed?

If they are doing away with the Touchpad why do I keep seeing commercials for it? I've seen at least 3 the last hour. The commercials with the Leah Michele and Russel Brand with their face behind the Touchpad, it's the same thing right? Weird.

My husband saw those too... I plan on being up early to harass the manager at Walmart into selling us some at the reduced price. Yesterdays manager wouldn't do it.

Just wondering, why would you need a Netflix app to watch their movies? Can't you just go into their website and log in? Thanks, April

I think for $100 it is worth it to surf the web on my couch. Barnes and Noble has them in stock now.

There are actually several articles out there including some tweets from HP employees saying that they are not doing away with the web os operating system. Therefore updates will still be available for it. They are doing away with the hardware and hope to have other companies such as LG and Samsung use web os on their hardware. The CEO of HP wants to get out of the hardware business and into the software business which is why HP just purchased a large software company this past week.

Someone made a youtube video reviewing the Touchpad when it first came out and according to that video you can use it for netflix.

Note:The video has not been updated as it shows that the kindle app. does not work but it has since been updated and does in fact work.

Anyone looking to buy DO NOT BUY A DISPLAY MODEL they are worthless and will not work. You can not remove nor turn off the demo. This has been posted on slickdeals.net.

Exactly and when you look at the cost of an e-reader that can not do anything near what the Touchpad can the price can't be beat.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking but another person on this thread mentioned that it didn't have a Netflix app.... I was thinking it didn't really matter. LOL! Thanks, April
